Target prices

Not very long at these increases. A friend of mine JUST got his license the other week and he doesn't really care to get into it anymore. He was very excited pre-pandemic, now, not at all. And rightfully so.

Our local sporting clays club just received a new shipment, and prices are up 20%, so naturally they have to increase prices. Combine this with ammunition prices up over 20% and fuel prices up to go shooting, and it is bound to have an effect. We have been charging $5 per round for skeet for a long time but when we have to purchase targets again, we will have to see if we can still keep this price. As it is, fewer people are showing up for skeet this spring.

I haven't even been able to find boxes of clays locally for the last 2 months. Granted, I live in small-town nowhere and there is only 2 or 3 places within a 30 minute drive I can look at

After a couple of great years, our club is experiencing a slow spring. High ammunition prices and lack of availability may have caught up with us. Our target price has not changed in years and we have a couple year supply so we should be able to hold target price.

I just became a member of a club who finally opened their doors. My excitement level is very low. They want 12 sign offs done and with the price of gas and ammo, it will be no fun.

What a time to be in.

The next year or so will definitely test a shooters commitment.

This club that opened up was my first choice but with covid, they were in a mess. I ended joining another club during that time. We will see by next spring if I will continue to be part of 2 clubs

I'm kind of questioning my having purchased another trap gun. My wife and I decided to pretty much cut out registered shooting now except for two local shoots and Canadians this year. What next year will bring I'm not sure but I think it is going to be a huge reduction in clays shooting period. I have pretty much made up my mind to sell my singles trap guns and just stick to one dedicated o/u for all three trap games. I already moved one o/u after purchasing the newer one. From here on in I think we'll be fishing instead of shooting. The price of fuel is definitely cutting into our hunting too and we will be sticking closer to home and doing alot less scouting again this year. I pretty much stuck to the lands I have exclusive use of last year and most are within ten minutes of home. I will be doing the same this season and from here on in as I don't forsee any changes for the better to our cost of living and leisure in the forseeable future.

I will shoot my sporting clays league, and the DU shoot this weekend, but I have no plans of shooting any other shoots. I will shoot skeet as per usual at the local club. Our attendance at skeet is greatly reduced from last year, and some people are shooting fewer rounds, due to the increased cost. I have a new boat to pick up, and the price of fuel is certainly going to increase the cost to run it and trailer it, but as long as I can afford to go fishing, I will. Scouting for geese will definitely be restricted to 15 minutes or so from home.

Lawry ht tp://www.lawryshootingsports.com is in southern Ontario. Their target prices are reasonable when purchased in bulk. Shipping is extra. It might be worth a look if you are thinking about getting at least half a trailer.

They just increased their price from $14.95 for a box of 135 birds to $19.95 these are pickup at the door prices. . Still cheaper than Bass Pro at $24.95 for a box of 90 targets and they go up to $30 plus on some brands.

Still haven't seen the increase at the club yet, but fair to assume it's coming. I just loaded my shoot card - and then some - so probably enough to get through summer and maybe year end. Enough ammo and components for now, but if this drags into next year.................. :(

Local club has charged $5/round forever now. This year it's gotten bumped up to $7.50. Regular clays went from $16 to $22 so it's not a surprise. Trying to find reasonably priced target loads. Still gonna shoot as much as I can. I don't have that many free nights. What I will cut out is the long drives to shoots far away. Gas still costs more than the targets and the local club is only 40 km away.

My Ford Focus 3cyl now costs me around $90.00 to fill up
I do not go to my range as often as I used to and with the price of food and everything else going up - it's making more and more finacial sense not to renew my membership next year. Just being honest about the situation we are living in.

If you drop membership can a person rejoin without issues. Clubs may want to look at making it cheaper to join, like no one time fees to join. Better to start thinking about the near future of the club now and not the day before you close the door.
