I do not compete except with myself. I am thinking about getting an accurate pcp rifle for fun. 10-50 yds. What to look for and what to stay away from? Budget under a grand. Thanks for those in the loop. AJ

Does the budget exclude all filling equipment such as pumps, tanks, compressors? That is, a PCP rifle under $1000, not including optics?

Good quality PCP air rifles are usually more than $1000, but there are many PCPs within the budget limit. As a general rule of thumb, you get what you pay for. Caliber choices in that price range will likely be .177 or .22 cal. If you haven't done so already, google Airgun Source and check out the many models they have.

tesro has/had stock of the CZ200s PCP rifles at 600 bucks. they are out of production now but were noted for their accuracy when they were introduced back in the late 2000's . CZ also manufactured them for Air Arms who sold them as the AA S200. like anything else these things get expensive pretty quickly when you add in the peripherals like a compressor or a pump with the maintenance. you might well be better off with an entry level springer from HW, much less money and still a high quality rifle, more fun with less hassle.

$1k, will bearably get you going with a PCP... So I'd steer you toward a spring-action rifle (in 177)

Assuming you have a PAL, something like a Air Arms TX-200 or a Weihrauch HW97 would get a top-tier rifle.
- If they are accurate enough for folks playing Field Target, they ought to be good for a casual target shooter.
