Target shooters and hunters safe from unnecessary handloading regulations
O.F.A.H. applauds government for supporting a perfectly safe activity

Hunters and target shooters who enjoy reloading their own ammunition are pleased to hear that the federal government has no intention of overly restricting this perfectly safe activity, as was previously proposed.

The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, representing tens of thousands of law-abiding gun owners, joined other firearms advocacy groups to protest against plans to restrict an activity that has always maintained an excellent safety record.

Evidently, the federal government agrees that further handloading restrictions are unnecessary. Recently, Natural Resources Canada, responsible for these regulations under the Explosives Act, announced that "the government will not be proceeding with any new handloading regulations."

Mike Reader, O.F.A.H. Executive Director, said "the government should also be congratulated on promising that, in the future, any changes to handloading regulations will require extensive consultations with organizations such as the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters."

Good news for all!!
Indeed. But at the same time it reminds us that if we're not careful and don't practice proper safety procedures, it may come back to bite us all. They left us alone because we weren't a concern in the big picture.

So it's over?! No more new and unnesessary regulations on recording my purchases and telling me where I have to put my powders and primers... nice. And I really wasn't looking forward to moving my 250 lbs. of powder stored above my stove...

hehe funny..I keep mine in my furnace :D

"...joined other firearms advocacy groups to protest..." That'd be once in a row. They were conspiciously silent when any firearms laws were proposed. Both in 1977 and when C-68 came along.

I guess you were not in Ottawa for either of the FEDUP protests then Sunray?

I was, got the T shirt, X2

I agree, that we had a much greater effect on this issue than the OFAH, but, the big orgs have their place. When meeting with government, like dealing with the Ministry in Ontario, they are a voice for us.
Trouble is, they don't always have the voice we want. Still better than the Government acting on it's own, having just the input of people like Cukier
