What are the regulations for target shooting in the wild? Does it change if it is private property or crown land? I've never hunted, but I have heard I may need to follow some of the same regulations.

I am form Nova Scotia.

Thanks

You will most likely need to be at least X meters away from the nearest house and Y meters away from the nearest road (as is the case with BC, but it's more complicated than that). The rules differ from province to province -- be sure to check.

Aside from that, my recommendation is to think carefully about who is around you and pick the places that are least likely to result in complaints as I'm hearing they can still give you a hard time even if you are following the law.

I think you better check NS regulations .... You are going to have to meet certain requirements with regard to licencing , it is generally easier to go to a public range or join a club . And no it doesn't matter who owns the land you still have to follow the same regs , it sucks I know , that's why I joined a club ....

NS = No Sense

NS has just about the worst provincial laws regarding this subject. You might be okay with a shotgun, but God forbid you use a rifle for innocent plinking outside of hunting season or a range.

Check your regs.

So true NS considers any place with trees game habitat, as well... Just to keep you under their thumb. The regs call everything a weapon!

I've been searching for something in writing for a while now... I'd also love to find some NOVA SCOTIA Gov't publications, statutes, that talks about private target shooting. I use a huge gravel pit with the express written permission of it's owner, but just can't find laws pertaining to private target shooting.

Thanks for the words of advice guys. I'll let you know if I find anything..

My club's rifle range is really only good for sighting rifles in. The way the tables for gear and everything is set up makes it hard to stand an shoot, or go prone and shoot.
