Hello,

I was out target shooting with my Remington 700 MLS today. I just put a new scope on and I only had time for a couple shots so I took lots of time trying to get my scope in the zone before I shot. My first shot, from 100 yards, was a good one, about 1/2" left of center. I thought I just got lucky so I took another shot and it hit almost the same spot. I was shooting from a bench with bags and a front rest and so I am pretty sure it is sighted in pretty good. The problem I had was the third shot, it was really hard to push the bullet down (unlike the first 2 which went down easily) and when I shot it was about 5 inches right of center. I was under the impression I could take 4 or 5 shots before having to clean, but could it be that I need to clean my rifle after every 2 shots to get consistent groups? I took a 4th shot just to see if it was me and it was even harder to get down the barrel and when I shot it was 3 inches right and 6 inches high, even worse!

Next time I go out I am NOT going to forget my cleaning stuff so I can actually figure this thing out, but I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced similar behaviour.

By the way, I am shooting .45 cal 225 grain power belts, with 100 grains for triple 7 fffg loose powder.

Thanks!
Evan

assuming your ammo was in good condition and none of your brass was dented causing tight feeding, did you have your bolt and everything else moving oiled?

He is shooting a muzzle loader. Sounds like fouling to me. When I used Triple 7 I had to clean after 4 shots. I most often used black powder, and then I would get best results if I cleaned after 2 shots.

Yeah,

Next time I go out i'll try 4 shots again and see if I get better results. Then if I get the same results I will clean after every two.
