Looking for a variable power scope to mount on a 22. Something like a 4-16 or a 6-25 or whatever.

Biggest thing that Im interested in is the consistent tracking. How cheap can I go and still be able to track my 22 out to 200meters?

Id buy a SWFA Super Sniper in 20x if it was just a range queen, but I still want the low end to be able to hunt with it.

What's the cheapest? About 350 or so if you want glass you can see thru and turrets that are really attached to the reticle and are not just there for show. ;)

You need to do more research to find out if the whatever brand name scope you are presently looking for, has enough elevation (MOA up) adjustments to suite your ballistic needs. And by following a tight budget such as yours, it's going to be a real hurdle to find the blend of adequate adjustments, that are repeatable, along with some level of optical quality for up to 200 yards. If you settle for the Bushnell Elite series, I suggest you find one with the optical manufacturing partner of Bausch & Lomb.

my 2 bits only.......

Millet TRS-1 4-16x50mm. Just under $400. Decent glass. Held zero on my 308. Nice big parallax focus knob makes it easy to use with gloves. Large tactical turrets with lockdowns.

Yeah i was thinking of the millet as well although I heard there was problems with the higher magnification models. Anyone here using Meullers?

I have a Millett LRS - good scope for the money - more pricey than your budget, but I dig it. Allows me to shoot out to 800 yards.

I've been told... I'll say again, "I've been told" that Hawke is not a colossal piece of crap for being cheap. I have absolutely no experience with (nor desire) any target scopes cheaper than a Vortex Viper. Once you get "spoiled" by good tools, you start deciding to go without rather than tolerate cheap. Vortex also has a line cheaper than the Viper with exposed knobs. An issue you will encounter with the hunting end of things is: How far, fast and small will the game be? High magnification even on small game is not always necessary and when that squirrel at 30 yards takes off running, anything over 4X will be bordering on useless.

I hear yah. I wont buy anything but Zeiss Conquest or Meopta now for my centrefire rigs or higher if I could afford it. I just cant justify putting a $1000 optic on a $500 rimfire. That being said.... Im seeing what the lowest price scope I can get and still have it be good enough.... could be $200 or could be $500.

Back in the day I had the Bushnell 3200 10x fixed with the target knobs on my 22lr..... for paper out to 250m it worked, I just want something variable now

Meopta, wow.......not a big name when when I picture quality optics.

A friend once had a Meopta scope on his mountain sheep rifle. It did not "cut it" for even one four day trip.
The Israeli Army once had Meopta scopes on thier sniper rifles. Now they have moved on to a different name brand.
