Target Types and Styles. Which do you prefer ?

So I recently found out that it sounds like Red Star Targets is no more. Which has made quite a few people I work and hunt with upset as those are the targets they like to use.

I wasn't sure if hunting and sports or rimfire of long range was the best location -_-

As such it got me thinking about making my own targets. I am fortunate enough to have access to AutoCAD and quite the assortment of printer devices.

I have started to fiddle around with making some files that print rather nicely on 11x17 as its a fairly standard target size.

Do we have an area that people like to share PDF's that other people can print from or download ? I know if you google its easy enough to find but one that pertains to everyone here on CGN.

I have measured existing targets to recreate for friends as well I have created random ones for myself with different purposes.

An example being I prefer Mils to MOA so my scopes are all in Mils so having a target with a Mil grid makes adjustment super easy (I do it way to often with my switch barrel rifle). I also recently made myself a target specifically for testing group size at 100/50 yards with a .22LR while adjusting the torque values on the action screws. It is based on the 100M rimfire target that you see in the Challenge online as I enjoy shooting that competition at our local clubs thanks to horseman2 introducing me to it.

Do you have a target preference for sighting in or long range ? I'm just building my collection :D

Cheers,

I've been using these forever.

I have a surplus of 11x17 paper and printer ink from my drafting days. It all depends what your doing I enjoy the CAD work so making a target for different things is one of the many things I do when boredom sets in.

You guys too good to spray paint a dot on a pizza box ?

I use the Hello Fresh boxes.

I like having a fresh backing, so I know any shot is mine. As most target stands are plastered like a telephone pole outside a bar in the city with posters.

Then I put it out for recycling.

I’m not going to lie to you guys; I make my own pizza.

I do shoot cardboard dotted with a paint marker

A very large red square is an excellent target for irons. I’ve shot sub moa groups with a skinner peep (okay a sub moa group) using this technique

I do like the redfield targets for sighting guns in

I like the orange diamond pattern Redfield targets as already mentioned. Also another good inexpensive and very handy thing I use is a benchrest style rubber target stamp I got from Sinclair/Brownells. You buy an ink pad from Staples and stamp your own targets on anything you like. Circle with a square like a benchrest target. I use this mostly when doing a lot of shooting testing rimfire ammo. I do find the diamond easier to Center the crosshairs on than a square though.

Targets for me are a bit different than some guys. The only time I shoot anything other than an official DCRA / ICFRA target is when I am zeroing a hunting rifle or working up a load, and even then I usually use those anyway.
For any other paper targets I much prefer the Shoot'n'see target that Birchwood Casey sells with the hole patches on them.

I designed my own targets for 1, 2 and 300 yards/meters
I then print them on cover stock if I cannot get Manila Tag.
Usually use White or yellow cover stock.

Sample of the 100 yard/meter target below. Dave.

Dave.

I also like to cover stock. I have access to 8 Mil poly and Tyvek and printing on that is nice for waterproof targets or repeated use of a 24x36 until its riddled with holes.

I also like to adjust my grids and rings for different distances. I like that target design Dave even has the box for info on load data.
