about 2 years ago I purchased a stevens 200 in 223 with the intent of making a "budget" coyote rig thinking that with a few mods and maybe a new barrel I would have a decent gun, long story short I liked the "out of the box" gun so much I left it as is but I am becoming more interested with outfitting it with a new stock and a heavy target/varmint barrel.Any suguestions on where to purchase such items?
Thanks,
Hunter.

Hunterman,

what is your budget and is your intended purpose still a coyote rig?
We are very lucky now to find ready to go Savage barrels and stocks. It was not long ago we had to wait long months for these items. Have to appreciate that.

I am very grateful for the availability. Fair pricing too. Thanks boys.

I have one that I put a Timney trigger into and cut the barrel down to 19" (short and stiff), with a cheap Tasco 40X scope it puts the 53 grainers through the same hole. You don't have to do much to make them shoot.

Sorry boys should have gone a bit further in depth about what I am looking for,it would be nice to spend about 400 maybe 450 for stock and barrel(sorry,I just would like to keep this in the "budget" realm") and yes this would still be a coyote rig but I don't mind a bit of weight if that's what your asking, colour does not matter much(it'll get a camo paint job when it's done)and for the barrel,a slightly faster twist rate would be nice,I like how the 1 in 9 it's wearing now stabilizes the 75 gamekings so right round there would be ideal, but I'm flexible.
Thanks,
Hunter.

I understand budget, I own a couple of cheaper savage rifles. I do not know where you will find both a stock and barrel worth switching to for $400. You can pay around $400 for each item and can pay even more. I hope someone can jump in and help you because I will buy them too.

If I had $400 to spend on a stevens 200 for a coyote rig I would spend it on half decent glass if the rifle did'nt have it already. Or I would switch out the trigger and spend the change on reloading supplies.

I actually intend to get the snow shoes on for coyotes this year. :onCrack: I will be using a savage package rifle that I fitted with a stevens 223 barrel and an SSS trigger. 3 inch, 10 shot groups, at 300 yards and light to carry.

I have a Shilen Match #7 cm bbl in the white in 223 and a used choate varmint stock. These would keep you in budget.

A boyds gunstock will set you back about $100 and a cm shilen barrel is $350. If you're out east juanvaldez is the go to guy for a barrel. If you're west mysicprecision.com is the place to check out.
