Tarps

I’d go with the silnylon. This one from MEC is great and comes in dark green. The return policy at MEC is always something to consider when spending a few bucks on something that may or may not work for your needs...if you don’t like it even after years they will return it.

Never knew that but I tend to not shop there .. most products are overpriced AFIC

Try aliexpress in camping hiking section. Tarp cheap and do the job. I bought 2 and decent quality ,light and durable for around $20.

princess auto canvas

A US military surplus poncho is the best personal size tarp imo.

Go to princess auto great selection of tarps

They have some better ones at times that come on sale if you watch closely

Funny how the flatlanders stand out in a discussion like this. ;) These gentlemen aren’t wrong they’re just in a different sport, flatland hunting has as much in common with backpack mountain hunting as skating does with swimming.

I’d go Sil too, and not sure the shapes you’re looking at but I like the asymmetric ones meant to be propped up with a hiking pole or two. Don’t own one mine are square, but those are brilliant. Weight’s everything 30 grams matters on a backpack hunt. Grey is often better than green in the mountains anyhow.

As for MEC, they carry real and proper gear, for backpack hunting even if they don’t mean to. Recently when asked their position, they declined to take a position on hunting, not sure if that’s changed. Yes, they take Raincoast donations at the till, who are directly opposed to what I do for work. In the end they’re the most practical source for the gear I need.

I run Kifaru and Hilleberg tarps,

-Megatarp and TARP 10 UL

They are both bombproof, light, and have options

They are made for hiking and mountain work

Having proper sealed seams as well as double stitching and
Reinforced guy lines Is helpful if multiple weather elements could show up,
The extra guidelines etc are nice for being creative when pitching for cover or just a glassing tarp

They are more money but quality lightweight gear costs more, but also retains its value better

*edit ato add- Thanks LiittleBoyLefty you posted while i rephrased my question.
Haha. No worries.

Just to help you make your decision around color. These are both Integral Designs SilTarpII tarps, mine is grey, my buddy's green. The surrounding area is such a mixture of trees, rocks and boulders, neither color jumps out at all. You had to know it was there and what you were looking for to see camp from the river below.

Thanks everyone.
I decided to go the silnylon route. It was actually the MEC scout tarps I was looking at but somehow got them backwards. It was actually the silnylon one that came in the green, so bonus.
Tarp seems awesome. Can’t believe how small and light these things are for the size, and it seems really well built.
I can see this thing getting a lot of use out here on the wet coast.
