Well our rem 700 short action Picitinny rails should be hitting the cnc turning centers early next week. So stay tuned pictures and pricing to follow.

How did you mount them for turning? We considered the lathe when I was with the-company-that-shall-remain-nameless but I couldn't think of a decent, repeatable, uncomplicated way to hold them. Maybe I was over thinking it.

I'm not knocking how any one makes them. I'm also not trying to get manufacturing ideas, I already have a proven way to make them. Just curious.

My guess would be to bore out the diameters on the turning center then onto the 4 axis mill to cut all 4 sides and end up with 4 rails once you split them. One turning ceter set up, one mill set up= 4 rails out of one piece of material.

Use a double chuck mill turn. Our hand guards are made on a mill turn. Rails and such are far more stiff and stable when made from bar stock compared to plate.

I was thinking just a turning center and trying to envising the fixture to hold the rails so you could bore the radii. I can see how a mill turn would be great, only wish I had one to play with.
