tarus judge

They Are sweet!!! I got a close look at one recently while on a trip to the U.S. Sure would be nice to have them up here!!!

The judge is their # 1 top seller right now.
but...

horrible customer service this side of the border = sales declining steadily in Canada :(

The new 3" judge loaded with Winchester 5 pellet 000 buckshot, Would be an amazing amount of Firepower. Although the 6" versions they'd be selling up here would be pretty Heavy.

I would settle for either a 5" or a 6" Judge, lol... that WOULD be really cool to have. Does anyone know how much they go for?

On another note, watching that video just makes me sick with envy. They're actually advertising carrying a loaded mini-shotgun with you in your truck and popping a carjacker with it, lol! Not only that, the gun is designed for maximum devastation at close range... holy crap!

Can you imagine if a firearm dealer was advertising this in our so called 'free' country? The antis would be going apesh*t all over the place and would start protesting outside the Parliment the next day - which would then result in a total ban on importing Judge-type pistols.

My hat's off to the U.S.A. once again - the true "Land of the Free".

Anyone seen Max Payne? He carries two Judges loaded with .410 (judging by the sound of the blast)... the revolver's even showcased prominently in the opening credits, with the name Taurus clearly shown as the camera pans across the barrel.

Wonder how much they paid for that placement, and how much it'll stoke the fires of the hype behind this gun.

it was total B.S.

here is a reply to that article

Reader "M.G." on the Taurus Judge handgun (and a plug for a concealed carry law in Canada)

Here's an informative letter we received about one of our posts:

Just thought I'd let the NP know about a couple factual errors in Colby Cosh's recent online posting about the Taurus Judge.

First, I don't think the Toronto police have been spreading any warnings about this gun. In fact, in a recent Toronto Sun article, the police seemed to be downplaying its significance. It's really the Toronto Sun and the Mackenzie Institute who have been making a huge story out of nothing.

Second, Mr. Cosh said the gun would be illegal in Canada. That's not actually true — a person can own it with a restricted licence as long as it meets the minimum barrel length requirement.

Otherwise, it was a great blog post. It's definitely a "questionably practical" piece as Mr. Cosh says. The .45 Colt round was invented in the 1870's and became obsolete when the .45 ACP round came out in the Colt 1911. The .410 shotshell is incredibly hard to find for the average street thug in comparison to a 12 gauge, and it's also the smallest commonly available shell. It's unlikely to kill anything it hits.

Oh, and might I recommend publishing a story promoting concealed carry? There have been two instances of citizens' arrests in the GTA by unarmed citizens against armed robbers in the past month alone (press releases on both incidents available at www. drps.ca). Wouldn't it be great if Canadians had the same right to defend themselves in Canada as they do in the U.S.A.?

Toronto Sun a Little Trigger-Happy

I rarely buy the Toronto Sun newspaper, but I just had to get it last week, after seeing what was displayed on the front page. I actually did a double-take, walked back to the vending machine, and got myself a copy. It was really more out of morbid fascination that they would actually depict such a story on the front cover rather than my own keen interest in the article itself.

In typical thick large-scale font, the front page of March 14th’s Toronto Sun showed a large picture of a Toronto Sun - March 14, 2008 - Front Page [click to get larger image]fearsome-looking handgun under which was written, “Crime’s New Mr. Big - Meet The Judge, a handgun that fires 5 shotgun shells. It’s the new status symbol for bad guys - and police fear it’s headed for Toronto”. Although the paper has its reputation, I was surprised that they would still actually provide such prominent public advertising for the Taurus gun company. Given our country’s high literacy rate (regardless of economic background), and the large number of Sun vending machines at street-level in Toronto, I’m sure that those individuals who never heard of ‘The Judge’ were helpfully put in the know by this bombastic front page story (and for $1 per paper, could purchase it and learn more). According to the headline, for certain ne’er-do-wells trying to look cool, this firearm could be something to add to the shopping list.

But then, as one reads the actual article (also found here, by Sun Media writer Don Peat) about this shotgun-shell-launching pistol, it appears that it wasn’t just about educating local gang members (even while ironically writing, “Canadian police weren’t keen on drawing attention to the weapon”), but also to incite a bit of fear in the populace (didn’t I just write about this media practice?). It goes on to say several times that Toronto’s police force have not yet seen this gun on the streets, but are watching and concerned about it (in “fear” about it, apparently, based on the front page), as well as any other gun. I also learned at this astute blog (concerning the very same Sun article) that The Judge has been around for four years in the U.S. The question then becomes, why exactly has this become an issue now?

As a brief letter to the editor pointed out in the following issue (along with a snide retort from the editor himself), this piece was likely sitting around the Sun waiting for a slow news day. I definitely feel more informed about things, including the issue of journalistic ethics.

Thanks for posting the article Greaves. What an irresponsible crock of fear mongering BS. I'm glad someone wrote the editor in an attempt to straighten him out. Any chance we could read his reply?
