Tasco 6-24x42 Mil-Dot scope, any good?

If one's going for a discount scope that's quality, why not Mueller with a lifetime warranty?

I'm a weak-shooting noob, but I know enough to know it's not the car but the driver that matters. Are more expensive scopes going to last longer, and have better light transmission - of course. But dicks aren't going to fall off if you touch cheap ones, imo.

Only problem I can see is that it's only a 1" tube and doesn't have much elevation adjustments that way. I opened one up and the reticle is a sort of wire that's suspended in there - is that a good thing or bad?

No, they are CRAP. Now go out and find a dealer who sells Leupolds for a reasonable amount. You'll shoot better with a cheap Weaver 4x than a Tasco 24x. If you want a cheap scope grab an empty paper towel roll and stick some paper clips in it for a reticle... about the same level of a Tasco... but even cheaper. Can be mounted with rubber bands... optional.

i put a 6x24 tasco with the mill dots on my ruger m77
in cal 223. i find it sharp and clear up to 20 power. i lke the target knobs under the caps.

I have the 2.5-10x42 illum/with target turrets, wow what a waste of money, the a/o bell feels so gritty i wanna puke, the clarity is not there and the recticle is out of alignment from the turrets straight out of the box. not good enough for my cooey, 1 week old, not mounted and going in the trash can...never again

My least favorite high powered scope...l

For something cheaper but definately a step up, try a Bushnell Banner 6-24x40 mildot. A HUGE step up in clarity IMHO.

For just a bit more money, you can get into the Elite 3200 series but for budget concerns, I would go for nothing less than that Banner and certainly not a Tasco again. If you can compare them in store, you will see what I mean. At the time I didnt think the scope was that unclear but the more you play with other scopes, even cheaper ones like the Banner, the more you can appreciate the small differences (and BIG differences).

How does this Tasco model hold up to the Leupold clones? Just need some glass for a .22

Pretty good for a 22 scope, and only a hundred bucks. As I posted earlier, I have two of them. I've currently not using one because I upgraded, but not ready to sell it just yet, it works pretty darn well, might as well hold on in case I get another rifle. I shot about 70 gophers with the one on my 17HMR yesterday, was hitting consistently up to 100 yards. The image gets pretty hazy above 20x but very usable between 6x and 18x. Never looked through a Leopold clone (I'm guessing you mean the 1337 Mk4 clones), but they're a lot more than $100.
