tasco from hong kong

So i order a scope from hong kong, its a tasco, brand new. Got it for a very small fraction of what it would cost here. Why so cheap though, why is everyone else not getting these. Are they a knock off tasco like the oaklys i bought in Mexico?:confused: Am i gonna regret this buy.
 
I don't know, but I ordered a 6-24 x 50, with red/green light-up reticle "Bushnell" from a chinese guy on ebay, and it was shipped to my door for a total purchase price + shipping for less than $75. I couldn't believe my eyes and fingers when I received it. I put it on my .338 WM (!), and after about 60 rounds through my gun since, it's still perfect! I thought for sure the crosshairs would be hangin' off the stock by now! Who knows how long it'll last, but I've shot my fall season bear with it. So then two of my friends ordered them from him. I guess it's risky, but supposedly it's shock proof, water-proof and fog-proof. For $39 plus $25 shipping, even if it lasts a couple months of shooting, it's worth it just for the hell of it, I think.:cool:

What if the scope gives out on a week long hunting trip, far from home? What if one morning it's cold and foggy when you see a moose across the swamp, and you raise the gun to shoot and can't see anything except fog inside the scope or the reticle laying on the bottom of the scope tube? Yup, you got a great deal!!
 
i'm with ben. one ruined trip isn't worth it. you don't have to spend thousands but $300 to $500 buys a good new scope and on the ee's $200 will get something usable. a good scope can be used for years. to me its peace of mind.
 
Yeah, you guys are right. But I wasn't too worried about ruining a hunting trip beacause I always bring two hunting rifles just in case anyways. I've actually had an older Leupold Vari XIII crap out on me last year, and a brand new Leupold Rifleman lose it's seal and all the gas escape this year just by adjusting the top turret, so I figure it's always a good idea to have a "backup" rifle with me on hunting trips. But, like they say, in the end you really do get what you pay for.:sniper:
 
arm, i think i bought the same scope for the same price by the sounds of it. Besides, isn't thats where there made anyway? Who is to say that these guys aren't getting them at theere cost, maybe there guys who work at the factory, and selling them on the side?
 
I think the cost difference comes in bypassing taxes, import taxes and packaging. In order for a product to be sold in Canada it needs French on the label..Lots of legalities were bypassed but the scope is likely the same as you would buy anywhere else.

I bought a red-dot, reflex style sight for my pistol from what sounds like the same guy in HK for $18, plus $10 shipping. I've been using it for about 6 months and it works perfectly. It looks identical to, and has exactly the same specs, as the one Marstar lists for $145 (and is usually out of.) I suspect you are right - a lot of the cost here is taxes and regulations.
 
a 30.06, he hasn't sighted it in yet. The whole tax, language and packaging thing is kind of what i thought. I understand peopls skeptisism, I still am too. But if its the real deal, my oh my what an amazing deal, I'll be buying more for sure. Thanks for all the input.
 
I'm using an AO Mildot Bushnell Banner Dusk to Dawn that I bought from Hong Kong on one of my 22's. Its functional, but clearly has inferior optical properties. I suspect they make them at the same factory, as it came with all the documentation a Bushnell Banner would, including box, instructions and warranty card. But, they'd never honor warranty on it, and I suspect mine is made from inferior lenses / coatings. I say that in the hopes that no one would buy a real Dusk to Dawn if it came with that sort of weird color shift that mine has. But, for the dirt cheap price its been ok.
 
For my "Bushnell", if in fact that's what it is, the first thought that came to me after looking through it was, "holy moly, that is so bright and clear!" I am so impressed with the lenses alone, that should this scope survive the winter hunting season without fogging up or the reticle falling apart, I'll be buying 5 more. I honestly can't figure out even how a profit can be made on even the lenses alone!

My only complaint so far, is that it did not come in a Bushnell box, or even with the correct manual (it was the typical chinese manual filled with spelling errors, etc.), and it came with the junkiest rings I've ever seen. But the scope itself feels solid, tight, has nice turrets, and I love the reticle. Just for fun, right after I received it I took my gun out to try some 400 yard shots to see how repeatable I could make some shots with it, and see if it would hold up to the recoil. We shot at a 20L pail, and after zeroing in on it, we hit it 28 times out of 30. It's since been to the range a few times, then out for my Fall bear hunt, which was a successful hunt, and then to the range again a couple times. Still shoots perfect on a .338 WM.

As far as I can guess, I'm sure Bushnell has a factory in China somewhere, (the whole world is made in China these days), and maybe they are "factory direct" or something. Also, the import taxes, etc., might be why it's so cheap, but I cannot find a serial # on it, so I wonder what the deal is there.

Anyways, that's my experience with it. Some guys might POOPOO it because of the low price, but I honestly am very impressed with it....so far.;)
