Anyone have any input on the Taurus PT1911? and if any dealers have them or can order one in. I read a good article in Handgun magazine and they sound like a good gun for the money.

I've been following reports on this gun since they came out and people (in the US) who own then love them... I dont think they're availabe here yet. :( (some sights list them but don't have them in stock)

PT1911 has a forged steel slide, frame and barrel and many features that you won't find in under $1K 1911...

I'm wating for the stainless model which (hopefully) should be out this year. :)

I called Wholesale in Kamloops about them in Sept, after seeing it on their website. Nothing on the shelf nor have they seen any to date and no idea when or if they'll be getting any. I too am interested, particularly in a blued with light rail unit, just want to handle it first.

Check out TaurusArmed.net....

PS: I believe dengertree can import one for you...

I think Wholesale has them on their website now.

Which doesn't necessarily mean that they HAVE any. I might call the 1-800 when they are open tomorrow & see if they do. :)

Normally, I wouldn't give the time of day to anything Taurus, but I have to admit that their 1911 does look nice...

I was waiting for one....
..They changed the website, They only have the .45 listed now. They removed the 9mm and .40s&w version. :(
They are going for about $500 in the US. Makes you wonder why the CDN list is over $800?????? Must be lots of shipping and duties on that pistol...and extra paper work... maybe they have to pay shipping twice.??

Hey, since it was not available until recently the could not have bought it when the exchange was $1.16, right. So if they order them now it should be par or better.... I wonder what kind of lies the retailer will come up with to justify charging $300 more than in the USofA.

^ well if that was a 'regular' store I could understand the price diff. since before the store gets it the distributor (FN sports) makes a few bucks on it as well. But I'm guessing (could be wrong though) that Wholesale gets their Taurus guns straight from the manufacturer (which is what SIR did) if that's the case the prices should be WAY lower...

I called and spoke to them today. They still have the 9 and 40 listed. No stock, but they will order them in. Apparently, two months at least to get one in.

I've been reading about these also, and would love to get the 9mm stainless with rail. Has anyone shot one? Build quality? Finish? Anything?

Right now there is no Taurus 1911 in 9mm even in the US...stainless models aren't out either...I heard Taurus won't be making 9mm and .40 models at this time :( all that's availabe in US right now is 2 blued models with and w/o the rail and only in .45...stainless .45 should be out next.

I Am a Nay Sayer!

Let me start with if it is a handgun I will probably like/buy it. More importantly, if it is a 1911 It is a shoo in.

Most posters know that I use Marianne Carniak of the Accurizer Gunshop in Troy, Michigan to build, modify, and repair my handguns. Marianne's opine was it takes too much to bring the Taurus 1911s up to speed. What is "up to speed?" It is the level I expect my 1911s to function at and that means little or no malfunctions. Lastly, it means no sharp edges etc.

The shop I buy from is #### William's Gunshop in Saginaw, Michigan and they said they will not carry the Taurus 1911 line.

I trust both of these businesses and I respect their opinions.

Regards,

Richard:D

NAA,

My statement on the Taurus 1911 has nothing to do with my feelings about Taurus' customer service or complete lack of it. I had put my feelings aside when I asked these two sources their opinions; I was and I still am interested in less expensive pistols that work. Why? I am a Scot and that should answer that question.

Lastly, if I were Canadian I would be looking at the Norinco and the RIA 1911s. I own examples of both and they are good solid 1911s.

Regards,

Richard

It's their desision and their loss; I've read on a few forums that stores that do stock them, sell quite a few of them. Because of the popouarity of the gun the price has actually increased on them...

About the "up to speed", well I don't own or even shot one since none made it in Canada yet. But looks like you don't have any experiance with them either...I don't really remember reading anything negative about the gun and I've read many user reviews (some people got better grips, new mags etc. -standard 1911 'stuff') but I never heard of someone needed to get work done because the gun wasn't relaible. I've also never heard of any sharp edges on a Taurus (it's not a Norinco ;)) The Taurus (revolver) I have is pretty smooth all around icl. the trigger (SA is less than 3lbs!)

btw about the RIA1911; I know many poeple (in US) think it's crap and I'm sure some stores won't carry it either...and if you wouldn't have goitten one you'd probably think the same... ;)
