I have a 4 inch Nickle Plated Taurus 38 special. I am not sure what model it is. might be an 80, but not sure. Where do you find the model number on the gun? Serial number is 7548XX. It is in reasonable shape, anybody have an approximate value? Bought it in the early 80's.

I hate to say it but if it is under ~4.15 inches (105 mm) it could be a prohibited firearm. This will decrease the value as there are not many people with the appropriate 12-x licensing for such a firearm. I don't know exactly how much it would be worth, maybe someone can chime in.

This is the long-nose version of the Police 38 special. I have even used it in a handgun course, and the certified instructor loved it. As well, at the range yesterday, the marshall offered to buy it. I wish I could post it's picture, but I can't figure out how to get one on this link without using a URL.

Sounds like it passes - just didn't want you to get caught up in something unknowingly! There are a lot of people who join up on CGN with limited understanding of Canadian firearms laws, and there are many who make the laws, who don't understand Canadian firearms laws!

This gun has been registered since I bought it, as well, I have an ATT and Registration Certificate with the gun from the RCMP. I didn't renew my FAC and went to the POL instead years ago. Since using other pistols when I was on a handgun course, I have decide on the S&M M&P 9mm. I used the Glock, Sig and Baretta 9mm, but I really like the feel of the S&W.
I have taken both non restricted and Restricted safety training and waiting for my POL to be upgraded to a PAL. The funny thing about the 38, is that everybody who has seen it, asks if I would be interested in selling it. I think it should be worth between $200 to $500, but that is why I am asking. My daughter is begging me not to sell it and give it to her once she get's a PAL

It look like this? http://www.thespecialistsltd.com/taurus-80 If it's one of these and you don't have it registered as a prohibited firearm, you're in trouble.
Your daughter will need an RPAL, but the important part is the barrel length. Four inch revolvers are prohibited and cannot be used anywhere. If you didn't re-register it when the Socialist F**ks brought in the new law(they cancelled all previous registration certificates and required shooters to re-register with a long past cut-off date), you can't register it now and your daughter cannot inherit it. What an instructor or "marshall"(that the RO?) said doesn't matter.
Anyway, the model number(a Model 80 is a Brazilian copy of a Smith Model 10) and the barrel length should be on the registration certificate.
Taurus revolvers aren't worth a great deal. Stateside they run between $100 US and $400ish US, depending on condition and where it is. Prices vary a lot from place to place in the U.S. If your's is prohibited and not registered as such, it's virtually worthless.
