TAURUS PT-1911 SS 9mm

Hey Dan. I picked up a Taurus PT1911 in 9mm black, back in September/October of this year. I've only put 160 rounds through it but my first impressions were very good. It came with a standard plastic case and two mags. They provide a sort of proprietary Taurus key that locks the hammer. An added safety feature, but I've never used it.

As far as the pistol itself is concerned, the finish was great. No marks or scratches. Comes with plastic Taurus grips that look pretty decent. Also has Novak front and rear sights installed, which is a plus for me.The lock up is nice and tight. Very little rattle, like I've seen on a SAM 1911. Classic 1911 feel and weight.

I had no malfunctions of any kind. But still only 160 rounds shot. Straight shooter right out the box, (at first, I'll get to that shortly). Slide locked back on all empty mags. Mags fell free when released. Just fun to shoot.

My one and only problem/complaint was this. ...no rear sight set screw. As i said earlier it shot straight but around the 140th round me and my buddy who's a better shooter than me starting missing the paper all together from about 20 yards. To my surprise the rear sight had drifted way left. Even more to my surprise there was no set screw holding it. I've since come across several other shooters online who were also missing the same screw. Warranty and parts are from Snapshots in Quebec. They said they'd mail me a replacement but got impatient and bought one from Brafasco to be cut down by a gunsmith.

Its not what I'd consider a high end 1911, but you still get a great pistol with good features for the price. Hope that helps.

Got mine from SFRC. They have it in black and stainless steel. Wolverine has bit more selection in 9mm 1911s but those are SAMs (shooters arms). A bit cheaper, but quality isn't as good. Just my opinion. The other dealers typically have higher end 1911s in 9mm but less selections.

The SAMs are a more budget 1911. I've handled a Sam and i didn't like the feel of it. Although it's the same platform it just feels different from my friends STI Trojan, or even the SIG 1911s,both higher end of course. But this all subjective and what's good for me may not be good for you. Unless you can get your hands on one in store, it might be a buy and see for yourself situation.

I have a SAM Commander 1911 in 9mm. It has been a great little pistol. I have run about 600 rounds through it and it runs really nice. It took about 150 rounds to break in with a few FTF initially, but it runs perfect now. I have used the factory Metalform mag, Wilson 10rd, and Tripp 10rds.

I also own an STI Tactical 5.0 single stack to compare it to. For 4 times the price, I cant honestly say I feel like I got 4 times the pistol. The SAM locks up tight, has a fairly crisp if not a little heavy trigger, and ran more reliably out of the box than my STI.

The SAM is definitely not as accurate as my STI, but I only paid $450 for it. No front checkering, but some skate tape fixed that.

The Taurus was on my radar, but ended up going all the way with an STI.

Get an oversized bushing fit to your SAM and you will see some accuracy improve.

i had a taurus once...kept it for a week. took it to the range once and got rid of it. the price they sell for is outrageous when you compare it to others. spend virtually the same amount and get a much better 1911 in an sti spartan.

3K+ rounds through my spartan and i love it.
