I'm currently waiting on my RPAL, but when it comes in I'll be in the market for a stainless 1911. There's a Taurus and a Springfield on the EE that have caught my eye. The Springfield is a little more expensive, but not considerably.

Pros/cons of both, or maybe one vs the other? I like the look of the Taurus slightly better, but I'm under the impression that the Springfield is a better make overall?

School me, oh knowledgeable 1911 gurus! :d

My vote is on the Taurus, ambi thumb safety, front slide serrations, and any reviews I've read all praise it, it was my dream gun before I had an rpal, and due to them not having one at the lgs I bought a kimber instead, but still plan to get the Taurus one day.

.45 ACP ain't cheap!

I suggest getting a 1911 in 9mm personally. STI Spartans are nice... I sold one for 685 with 3 mags and a SolCan holster last week. You just gotta keep an eye out.

Or get into reloading and buy a .45 :) it is a great round. Hard to describe why it's so nice to shoot... but it is!

Springfield quality far outweighs taraus.

Your comparing a kia to a honda for resale at this point.

Springfield and colt have both nebeen making the 1911 forever and a day.
They both have the best frames.

There are a million parts for a 1911
Ignore "ambi saftey or mag release" and get the slide/size with the correct sights (more so the sight cut)

Everything else can be quickly replaced with little to no fitting on a quality frame.

Agree...comparing very different pistols at price point...if you've got the budget go springfield..if you're going to compromise...the Taurus is a fine 1911..having said that...I'm an Sti fanboy...so would probably get the Spartan or with a little more..a Trojan.lots of choice really...visit all your local gun stores and try out what you can..save cash for ammo..

Yep... STI all the way

I don't know if the Springfield is better, could be. But I feel for the price I paid my Taurus, it's a very nice 1911. I bought it to shoot it, not to resell, so I don't care about that. With the price difference, I got dies, and some reloading equipment because yes, 45acp is expensive to shoot.

Jessie duff/abbott/what ever it is now shoots a Taurus. I realize she's paid to say good things about them but I just love watching her videos

It's a pretty safe bet that the only thing Taurus about the guns she uses in competition is the marking.

Springfield 1911s are generally decent for their price point. I would not buy anything from Taurus.

Just had a Taurus 1911 stainless 9mm arrive on a trade....did a complete tear down yesterday...have to say...it's well built..finish is decent, lock up isn't bad, barrel bushing could be a little tighter, trigger is very good (quite surprised by that) no sharp edges I can find, mags drop free and heine8 sights seem to work well....I'll let you know when I've shot it..but for now...I'm liking it..feels like a very decent gun for the money..

Unless you like nostalgic, steer away from the spingfield (better gun), as you will spend more upgrading it. That said it's a 2 horse race, so I'd suggest the Taurus.

Neither would be my choice if given the same price point.

Aren't Springfield parts being made in Brazil now?

Springfield has always used components made in Brazil by IMBEL for its 1911s. Guns wih an "NM" prefix have most of the final fitting and machining done in the US. The others are primarily built in Brazil.
