Either that or the real expensive 1911's are just reflective of the high profit margin of those manufacturers. They ask the high prices because they can get the high prices... :D
 
Taurus guns are made in Brazil, now I’m gonna guess that people don’t make as much an hour there as people do in US or Western Europe. So there will be substantial cost savings right there.


As for parts, if you read the article below you can see that Taurus makes all the parts themselves to keep the manufacturing cost down.
For all intents and purposes, the PT 1911 is assembled with what we in the U.S. would call a "custom shop" approach. Slides and frames on both the blued and stainless versions are Taurus-forged, not cast, and are individually hand-fitted to match-level tolerances during assembly.

Taurus spokesmen observe that one of the main reasons they believe the performance of the PT 1911 outstrips similarly featured pistols that cost much more is that other manufacturers assemble their "loaded" guns with off-the-shelf parts from various sources without the unified design and quality-control coordination that makes the PT 1911 a truly integrated product.
Put simply, with the PT 1911 the basic gun and all the bells and whistles were designed, manufactured, and assembled under the same direction under the same roof. It makes a difference.

Spoingfield 1911's are made in Brazil too and most folks seem to like them....
I'm just shocked at their useless warranty service. What good is a lifetime warranty if they never get to fixing you pistol? Look at Ruger on the other hand, no warranty at all on their pistols, but they will fix it for minimal $$ or free most of the time, and their service is praised for fast turn around when their is a problem......
I guess if you buy a Taurus, don't buy it for it's lifetime warranty.....:)

I'm not convinced that Taurus-made parts are necessarily better than "off the shelf" parts used by other manufacturers. Also, the article talks about forged frame and slide but does not say anything about internal parts like extractor, ejector, hammer, slide stop, etc. Many companies that make heavy use of cast/MIM internals have experienced reliability issues. Kimber, in particular, comes to mind.

Again, I'm not saying that PT1911 is a bad product, but I wouldn't get too excited until I see some reviews from the actual end users.

there have been a few posts by PT1911 owners on US forums and ALL of them were impressed by the gun...

Edit: PT1911 will be available in 9mm .40 .38super and .45acp. Oh and there will be a 4.25 in version too :)

You would also think parts for a Beretta would fit in a PT92. Taurus will make something just a little different so the parts won't interchange.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions about that... My bet is that it will be mil-spec and standard 1911 parts will fit or can be easily fitted if there's a problem.

Taurus Vice President Bob Morrison wryly observed when I asked him about parts compatibility, "Sure, the other stuff will fit. But if you have a nicely equipped Mercedes, why would you want to switch its drive shaft with a part from Acme Auto?"

^ FN Sports/ R. Nickolls (spl?) is the importer of Taurus guns (any many others) I'm sure they will be brinning them in when they will be readily availabe.
