I have had a PT92 for many years, an accurate, solid well built pistol that has served me well for thousands of rounds. Last year the hammer started decocking during firing, go from single to double action every once in a while. Now it seems to be getting worse, every 4 or 5 shots. The gun doesn't fire the next round, it just goes to decock position. It isn't safety, it is an annoyance. I thought it might be a worn hammer and sear or maybe spring. Has anyone run into this with this model? How did you fix it?

I don't have a Pt92 but it does really sound like a 'paper clip' spring (from inside the grip) is 'done'. Taurus is supposed to have a lifetime warranty so first I'd try calling FN sports (the distributor) ask them for availability on the parts, also talk to a gun store owner when you bought it from (if you bought it in a store).

I said to myself, the hell with it and pulled the sear out of it. I don't have a clue how I intend to get it back in the pistol but the sear is definitely worn out.
Next question... has anyone seen any Taurus parts for sale online? I hear that the Canadian supplier is impossible to get parts from.

Well, I think I would have better luck raising the dead than getting Taurus parts in Canada! I have tried P&D, Milarm, several gunsmiths, Taurus in Miami, Western Gun Parts and now waiting on a call back from R Nickels all morning. I'm getting tempted to weld the sear up with Uni-Chrome and grind it back to shape myself. Why does it have to be so damn hard to get service these days, its not like I'm not willing to pay! Sometimes Kanada sucks!

Taurus is adamant that they will only deal with Nicholls in Canada. (Practically threw me out of thier display at the SHOT show this year when I suggested that we'd like to do it too.)

Thanks for the tip, Irv actually has a sear and hammer in stock! Too bad he will not sell them to me, says the liability is too high to sell to an ordinary person and he will only sell to a licenced gunsmith.
I have given up, I will weld up my old sear and try it, if that doesn't work I'll leave it in the safe as a queen until sometime in the future I stumble across the right parts.
My phone bill for this month will be enough to cover the cost of these parts X 10!

Well, you still have the option of getting one of the several excellent pistol smiths here in Canada to buy the parts from Irv and install them for you; beats the heck out of retiring the pistol!
P.s. I agree, after my misadventures with my PT-92, I am more than a little reluctant to ever go the Taurus route again.

Well, after reading about the new Taurus 1911 it got me thinking about my Taurus again and it's worn out sear. I took the sear for another McMurray GunNut to have a look at. He had a couple of good ideas. Instead of trying to build the sear back up. use a stone to bring it back to square shoulder and then do a oil quench to heat treat it and get the hardness up on it. I worked on it for about an hour, working the top of the sear down while keeping the surface square and level. After I got the engagement surface nice and cleaned up, I heated the sear until it was starting to get red and oil quenched it. Put it back in the pistol, racked the slide and released it. This would always decock the pistol before, now the hammer remains cocked. Tried it about 2 dozen times... works great. Now I have to run a box through it and give it a workout.
