Anyone experiencing any problem with Taurus revolvers?

Unless Norinco announce the release of a non-prohibited revolver release in Canada, I am really considering buying one early 2011. Model 608, I like the 8 rounds capacity in .357mag.

Other option would be Ruger GP100, S&W are too $$$$.

FYI: if you're looking for an entry level revolver we will have Charter Arms revolvers coming in 357, 5" barrel. ETA a month or two.

K.O.

Taurus are one step above Norinco in the cellar of gundom, beg, borrow, or steal a bit more cash and get the Ruger!

Used S&Ws are reasonably common and can be had for significantly less than new ones. If you must buy new, Rugers are OK, but stay away from Taurus.

This a funny debate, about Taurus revolvers... I am interested in buy one myself, so I did a lot of research (customer satisfaction replies are my friend), and I found that Taurus is one company a lot like Norinco: people love'em or hate'em. :yingyang: There seems to be little or no middle ground.

I have read some people report that their Taurus revolver has lasted countless rounds, extimates over 200,000, and still working. I have also read of a Taurus breaking a spring on the first round and waiting years to never getting a replacement. It seems that Taurus revolvers are good and so are the clones they make (1911's, Sig, etc.). However, the autos they make themselves are supposed to be crap... and to make it worse, Taurus has little or no ability to service their goods outside of the USA. I am told a local shop has a "boneyard" of Taurus's because they can't get simple screws, springs and so on.

In the end, it seems if you buy a Taurus you buying it as is. If you get a 1000,000 round plus gun: Great! You might also get an expensive paper weight.

In my not so humble opinion, opinionated as I am... pay the money to get a S&W. Excellent choice with lots of aftermarket choices, compaired to most other companies out there.

Yeah, that's what I have been reading tonight. Kinda scared of getting a crap one.

Taurus made good guns but hardly get after sale support here in Canada, as such I cannot see the point to spend $900 for that revolver. Taurus make a tracker 357 mag sell about 650's at Canada and has a 6" barrel. Anyway get a good used smith 686, it should be about $500 to 600. and most of the time you can get a gp 100 under 500.

I beleive it always has been and always will be that you get what you pay for. It is like the farmer buying oats if you want the best you will pay the top dollar, if you want the second best you will pay less and if you want the stuff that has been through the horse once you will pay a lot less.

Looking for a well-priced wheel-gun.

The Ruger GP100s are sweet, especially in the restricted 4.2 " barrel.

Check out Shooters Choice in Arrowwood, AB. Google it.

Roger there is great to deal with and is showing both the SS and blued in stock.

cheers

i had a 44mag raging rull. still regret seling it a few years ago. 608 is built on a same frame as their 44mag so it should hold up fine

Taurus builds a decent firearm for the price, stateside. They also have warranty there (and parts), which is sadly lacking in this country. At $900, I would avoid them, period. For that price you can get a very nice used S&W or Colt, or maybe a couple of Rugers. I would look into the Charter Arms stuff, I have owned (and still have one in 44) a few of them in the past and they were good revolvers. Not a Smith or Colt, but they traditionally cost a lot less too. FWIW - dan
