Hey all - I haven't been following their status, but a friend of a friend is wondering about the availability of the plain jane NR Tavor. I see they're still being sold privately, but is there any hope for new stock anywhere anytime soon? My google-fu shows them out of stock everywhere. Not looking for Tavor 7.

Thanks in advance.

Stores are restocked every two months or so (mostly with US assembled/badged X95s in the past few shipments), and irunguns brings them into their Canadian store as well as doing import runs every month.

Tavor X95 (18.5" barrel, 5.56 NATO) is rarely available in Canada due to being an expensive firearm (compared to the other options such as Raven). Your best bet is either find used/resold as mentioned above (Gun Post) or import one via a reputable importer.

Something else to consider....find a store/retailer that allows you to put a down payment / layaway on an out of stock item. That way, if and when it comes in, even in smaller quantities, one is already allocated to you before it is inevitably and quickly sold out.

For instance, for a while, I was looking for a particular lever gun in a particular caliber in a particular build that seemed to be constantly sold out. Sure, I sign myself up for notifications, but by the time I get them (sometimes within minutes, sometimes hours), invariably the gun is subsequently sold out. Likely the gun is coming in smaller quantities.

I found out that Al Flaherty's, one of the site sponsors here, will accept a down payment/layaway plan for deposits on out of stock items. I figured, won't hurt to give this a go, and I did. Well, it paid off. When the recently received a small quantity of the gun for which I was looking, I got the notification, and by the time I checked stock levels, it was already sold out - we're talking probably within 10 minutes. But I didn't worry - I later got a call from the store saying "hey, the gun that you put a deposit on - it's come in". They already ran my PAL to get the reference number since I have bought from them many times before. I then called them and paid the balance and less than 24 hours later, it was at my doorstep.

Not sure if every store has a down payment/layaway plan, but that may be a possible solution for hard to find / out of stock items. The only downsides are that 1. you may have to wait a while and 2. your deposit is non-refundable - if you choose to change your mind later, the deposit will convert to to a store credit), but as long as the Tavor is still importable, one will show up eventually. I see that Al's carries X95s, so you can always give them a call or email them asking about the down payment/layaway problem for one of these.

That's a good point, thanks. At first glance I thought it sounded too much like a pre-order situation, which has issues that I'd encourage reputable retailers to steer clear of. But a deposit situation probably makes a lot of sense for a lot of customers (and retailers.)
