Tavor calibre question

So my friend has a tavor, and it's stamped .223, Ive heard people say you can shoot military 5.56x45 out of it, but since its only marked .223 I assume it would be unsafe?

he found a kick@$$ deal on norinco 5.56 and was wondering if it's OK before he jumps on it.

Its probably stamped 223 to bypass export restriction.

Personnaly I know someme that has gone thru cases of Norinco 5.56 with his Tavor.

I was at the range and a guy was running 5.56 out of his AR stamped in .223 and his barrel exploded, so I wanna make sure.

my ar is stamped 223, contacted the manufacturer and he said that 5.56 is fine.

that being said, you can either thrust people with tavor here or go to the source and contact IWI customer by email. With OberlandArms in germany I had my answer the day after.

Unless you also tell us what exact ammunition he was using, that information is entirely meaningless. Hot handloads? Chinese milsurp? Factory loads? Once-fired reloads? Was he shooting mag after mag as fast as he could hit the trigger? Did he have a squib right before the blowup?

A Tavor won't explode because you put 5.56 ball NATO through it, it's a good quality firearm. Something else must have been the cause.

The rule of thumb is that Tavor is stanped .223 in Canada to get around export laws of "military calibers". Its mentioned numerous times in the TAVOR Faq. But its alot of reading.

I was at the range and the sun was out. My barrel exploded. Clearly nobody should ever shoot and AR during the day as that is potentially unsafe.

Back in the day before the Internet, people would shoot 5.56 in their .223's and 7.62 in their .308's and no one exploded.

Tavor is 556 and stamped 223 to bypass export regs as previously stated. However, that said be cognizant that the Norc 556 has a long standing record of quality control issues, and there is a good chance that the minuscule savings will be enough to replace the Tavor. You must realize that at this time, and for the forseeable future there will be no spare NR length tavor barrels available.

To me it would make sense to shoot federal or pmc

Have shot loads of 5.56 through my Tavor. It's chambered for 5.56 and stamped .223 to get around certain import/export restrictions.

Same here have shot loads of 5.56 through my tabor and still do in fact.

I've fired over a thousand rounds out of my Tavor, both .223 and 5.56x45. Both run great and have not had a single type of malfunction with either type yet. So if you got it, shoot it!

It says 556 right in the tavor manual. He can shoot either 223 or 556 without issue.
