Tavor Click - No Boom

Well - I finally had a issue with a Tavor.

Not with the Tavor itself - but more with the aftermarket trigger. Probably been mentioned on the forum before - but here was my experience.

Background:

- Geissele Super Sabra trigger
- Outside temperature yesterday -4C

- Pulled the trigger and nothing
- Waited - checked - ejected the round - no primmer strike at all
- Strange?
- Try again
- Pulled the trigger and nothing
- Noted there was an anemic sound to the hammer dropping.

- removed bolt and trigger back
- nothing seemed out of sort and I had used this rifle without issue before

- reassemble - Try again
- Pulled the trigger and nothing

In fact the cold was the issue - trigger pack would not operate


I guess it is made for desert operations?

Back at home - dry fire test and everything sounds a OK

I will take the factory trigger pack next time for comparison.

I have the Geissele trigger on my Tavor and I have shot it lots in -20 it functioned perfectly. When you last cleaned it did you put the firing pin back in correctly or something silly like that ?

Everything looks in order - had the same rifle at an indoor range the week before without incident - had not dissembled after that short range trip.

I think maybe some grease (or something) froze and created the issue? Not sure - but you can hear the difference in the hammer now that the rifle is back indoors.

He had a Timney die on him, but am not sure if the Geissele has the same compatibility issues with the non-US Tavors.

I agree that it could be the type and/or amount of lubrication on the trigger. I've experienced this as well but only with match prepped and aftermarket triggers.

Try running the trigger relatively dry next time.

Another thing to note: do you have a Geissele Lightning Bow installed? If you have, the lightning bow adjustment can cause the issue you describe if the overtravel stop is over tightened.

Throw your factory trigger pack back in and try it again. If it runs like a top, you know it was the trigger pack.

Between this and the broken hammer, im very hesitant to mess with the mechanics of the tavor.

There are many many Super Sabras in use in Northern Canada at temps far below -4C. There are thousands in use in cold climates in Canada and the USA without problem. Whatever the problem is with your rifle, it definitely isn't that the trigger doesn't work in the cold.

I had this happen too. Backed it off 1/8th a turn and it was solved.

In this particular case it does appear to be trigger pack related.

Was able to do some additional testing both indoors with the aftermarket item and outdoors.

Are you offering to meet in Toronto to review the results?
