Well its time for me to upgrade to a Tavor. Sold the M17s today and need to fill the empty space in my safe. :p

I just saw a Gen 1 on EE for 2K with sight !

Is this a good buy ? Are their any issues with the gen 1's I should know about ?

Thanks

Never used a mepro sight so it would be a shot in the dark. I just like the price right now... lol

You're pretty limited unless you can find a longer rail. Plus, not many are fans of the Mepro...

And, odds are the savings you have will be wiped out once you find one of the longer rails!

The price keeps coming down on both generations. Just don't try to import a US SAR-21 unless you're happy with restricted!

If the Gen 1 on the EE is really a Gen 1.5 you might get the factory "STAR-21" style flattop?

One thing to remember is that you are getting an optic with the Gen 1 for that price. 3 years ago those Gen 1's sold for 3000+, with a Gen 2 you still have to put an optic on it. Unless you love irons! My 2 cents anyways.

Also Gen 1 tavors can wear the NEA rail kit on the front end that in a way makes them better then Gen 2. The top rail on the kit is a bit longer then the standard flat top on Gen 2.

I can also tape bricks to any generation of Tavor to make it uglier and heavier.

I have . . . criticisms . . . of the NEA tavor outfit.

It may be heavier then the stock grip, wich it is. But it was the only rail kit available at the time to the best of my knowledge. It does what it was designed to do. While it is not perfect, it was a hell of a improvement over what we had.

Mind you though I would still take a stock Gen 2 over a modified Gen 1. However if the price was right, who knows.

Oh no, I'll give credit that NEA was one of the first guys willing to build anything for the Tavor.

But today, you can find Manticore, Gear Head Works, and Midwest setups that are more useful and more affordable than the NEA creation. And they'll fit Gen 1 or Gen 2 regardless.

Personally I'm waiting for a retrofit kit that will let me put the Gear Head Works Razorback optics rails onto my Gen 1 rifle.

Just ordered the MI handguard, and MI light adapter. Hopefully Brownells won't cancel my order. lol...

Still trying to decide what optic to use. The Elcan Specter is really calling my name.

Looks like I will run some Daniel Defence irons for a few months until I save up the cash for a Specter.

I wish I could run red dots but can't because of my astigmatism.
