Tavor in 3 gun competitions ?

it would be a fun gun to Stage in a match ! byt I dont think you will ever see any bullpup win a match

Neither does keeping the argument that a Tavor is a legit 3gun rifle going, the best in the world don't run them for a reason.
Closed mined are we ? LOL
Try it, you might like it. Do you even own one ? Any gun anyone brings any gun to a 3 gun match is a legit gun. Some might faster and some might be slower. Whats the matter with people that don't think you cant participate unless you have an AR ?? ITS AN OPEN GUN SPORT PEOPLE! sheesh.
I use ALL these-

I use a Benelli MR1 comfortch with Beo mags and an Aimpoint.

I've seen a mini14 at a 3 gun match, but other than that, everyone but me has AR's

I went with the MR1 only because it felt the best to me out of all the non-restricteds, and I use it lots away from the range for hunting/plinking.

Use whatever you want, and have fun. The only person that cares about what guns You use, is You.

Hi SEK-BERLIN

I am one of those Tavor runing guys. Never owned an AR and have nothing against them (I wanted it for the the non-restriction). I have run Tac matches and 3 gun with this using a Vortex Sparc II and while I will admit that the reloading AT TIMES is slower than an AR, with practice (like I have been doing), I can go from bolt forward, safety on, low ready to firing my first round in less than 5 seconds. Is that better than an AR? maybe not. But at the end of the day, my scores are in the same general area with the other rifles being run by much better shooters than me. The compactness allows for some great close quarters maneuvering and the fact that I shoot left handed and this gun swaps to left-hand-ready without special ordering like the AR would be made this a great gun and with practice practice practice, I do not bad.

All in all I like my choice and while I don't claim to be great at the sport, if I chose to be, I could sink thousands into this gun, train day after day and probably be up near the top....or maybe not. It's more about the shooter and what they are comfortable with. I've seen people run with SKS'...wouldn't recommend that lol but to each his own.

My thoughts at least.

I've competed extensively with both my Tavor and with several of my ARs.
The AR is the better platform. A good shooter can be good with both but will be faster with the AR.
I really like my Tavor as a combat platform but a good 3 gun built AR will beat it for $1000 less.

Out of curiosity I googled Chad with KelTec.
this is one of the first vids I found.

Disregarding the gun issues, what I saw from this 3gun competitor's manipulation of the gun is precisely why I feel a bullpup is slower than a AR style platform
Going prone, no efficient way to monopod off the mag to stabilize the gun for long shots.
reloading, he is dismounting the gun to find the magwell while on the move.
off hand stabilization, your support arm is close to your body, you can stabilize the gun better if you reach out a bit further.

If you have a better vid of him or anyone else in competition, please share it.
I'm open minded and would love to see proper use of one of these guns in competition.

Also would like to read your thoughts on making the tavor 3gun ready. please direct me to it if you can.

With a little tavor specific searching, I found this vid

if the best way to do a fast mag change requires you to release the only grip you have on the gun, at best its a fast mag change, but at worst its a dropped gun or out of control muzzle.
If there is better way, please let us know.

With an AR, you extend your trigger finger a bit and hit the mag release. Maintain grip, finger is off the trigger.
Mag well can be seen in periferal vision so you don't even have to move your head or dismount the gun.
Magwell is in familiar position (i.e. out in front just like a pistol's magwell would be located, or where the shotgun loading port would be found)

I wish.
Took a mental break, came her to see if 667 found any more dildos.
ended up researching bullpups a bit.

Back to work!

First off, the gun chad was running in that vid was the RFB, not the RDB. Very different bullpup.

In reference to the lack of a mag to monopod off of up front, I find you can do this with the Tavor and it huge handgaurd and just place your hand under it to rest on, on the ground.

The Midwest XL handgaurd for the Tavor fixes your second gripe. TV-PressPass is sporting one for 3 gun and I just mounted mine and tried it last night and tested it. Gotta say its perfect for me. You can really get up on it like the AR and run it. Totally changes the way you shoot and run it. I like it.

I think your exagerating the ease to drop the rifle in the demonstrated way and one can do it with out dismounting the gun.

The position if the mag well argument is all just in what you have learned and spent the most time with.

I'll run mine in my next 3 gun match. I normally run a DD Mk18 or an LMT 16". All three have Aimpoint H-1's or T-1's. Bullpups are definitely an acquired taste and getting used to their height over bore is a pain but I think the Tavor can be run as fast as an AR once you've worked with it.

I'm still a die hard AR fan but I gotta run the Tavor and see.

I'm also going to run a coyote hunt with my buddies and video it for fun.

I'm not well versed in the different models, but the bullpup design should be functionally similar regardless.

If your hand is under the handguard, it is not out front stabilizing the barrel.
That does not seem like an efficient way to make quick prone shots.
Action shooting games are measured in hundredths of a second. If i'm essentially trying to monopod off my hand vs the gun, I'm not making shots fast enough to be competitive.

If you can post a link to one, or a pic of one on a gun, I'd be interested to see it.
In a learning mood today.

I'm fixated with the position of the magwell because in my mind that's where all the inefficiency lies when examining this platform in the action sports world.
This area is about action shooting games. IPSC/IDPA/3gun etc

In that context, what I have to do to the firearm (reload, manipulate switches, whatever) is not in my "work space", i.e. right in front of my face, then it is inefficient in terms of overall stage time.
If I have to find a magwell that is positioned in my arm pit (yes exaggerated) then it will add time on the clock, and I can't have that.
I'm slow enough as it is.

If the goal is to just have a good time and hang out with your buddies, choose whatever platform floats your boat.
Use a break action single shot and see how close you can get to the rest of the pack!!

If your goal is to be competitive and win, I don't think the bullpup design is the right one.

I won't even get into the fact that you can get an AR with a match grade barrel, and sub MOA accuracy all day long.
Or the fact that you can configure the gas system/BCG/buffers to make it feel as though your are firing a 22, and have zero muzzle movement.
Or that you can get super light and crisp triggers that aid in making first shot long distance shots, or .10 splits when hosing targets.
There's more, I'll stop here though.

Bullpups have their place.
They just aren't ideal for the 3gun game.

I don't want to know what you two have planned for the next match...

Next match in in a couple of weeks (BRM3G) down in Kentucky.
I plan to "run" my AR, but am prepared to eat crow if once I get there I see that a significant number of competitors have ditched their AR15's for the Tavor or any other bullpup.

Nice deflection!
