I love bull pup rifles. I like how they balance, and I like having a real length barrel in the short compact package.
I had the opportunity to shoot a Tavor last year. The owner (on this site) had an Elcan mounted on it and used the trick for the trigger (release one spring) to reduce the weight.
Off hand standing at 100 yards it was a joy to shoot. I love the balance. Easy to hold. Prone. It was fantastic. The rifle balances on the mag like a monopod. It makes shooting prone very easy and fun (get solid pull tabs and use the longer mags). I did some kneeling and it was good. I enjoyed shooting this rifle.
Ergonomics were excellent. Mag changes being the only thing that will be a bit slower. But even that looked like you could get it down very fast with practice. It's nice that the charging handle is on the left the way it should be. If the Germans could get it right back in 42 (prototype before the STG44) then why the heck have we had to live with the Russian right side for so long?
The bad. The trigger was long. It was so so. One of the common complaints of a bull pup. It felt a bit "squishy". But it was usable and worked just fine.
The so called "Tavor Kiss". You get black carbon on your cheek from the ejector port. No big deal. Consider it free camo painting
Accuracy. Well I was shooting off hand, and the ammo wasn't matched to the rifle. Also factory fodder. So about what I'd expect. We weren't bench rest shooting.
This time around I ordered one. I'm also happy that the reticle has been changed with the included sights. The new reticle is a lot like the one I love with my Eotech site. Hopefully I can retain the original. We'll see.
Anyways just my opinion on the Tavor from a limited shoot and for fun shooting.
