Hey guys I'm looking for optics suggestions for my Tavor. Budget will probably be around $500 and max shooting range will be about 200 yards. Thanks
 
Do you want to variable power optic? Or a fixed? Will you be shooting a lot close up and occasionally reaching up? At paper? Or animals.

Optics are subjective as hell. I would probably look at any of the 1-4x or 1-6x (Primary Arms/Vortex Strike Eagle) for variable power if i wasn't doing a lot of close in "tactical" shooting.

A red dot, a Mepro or a maybe a used Aimpoint. You could add a magnifier later for long stuff

Thing to note with the Tavor, you will need extra tall rings or a riser for a comfortable cheek weld with any optic over the stock rail.
 
Thanks for the response. I'll primarily be punching paper as I have a bolt action for varmints. I suppose I could go with a Meprolight although I've heard they can wash out a bit in bright sunlight.

There is also the Mepro RDS with 1.8 MOA LED that will not wash out in bright sunlight.

There's is a WOR (Wash Out Remover) available (or at least there used to be).

There are some 3x prism optics on the market too. Might be the best of both worlds if just punching paper.
 
I'm currently leaning towards a Vortex Spitfire 3X myself for above mentioned reason, plus the etched glass gives a crisp reticle - can be used without power in daylight and it's designed around the 5.56 round.
Checks most of the boxes for my use.

That might be the answer right there. My only question would be if the Spitfire would sit high enough for a comfortable cheek weld?
 
I bought the gearheadworx shorty rail to fix this very issue, then I bought the same company's super-nifty back-up front sight... only to discover the silly bastard sized their height to shoot 9mm. Sized ALL of them to shoot 9mm. Stupidity.

The highest ADM mount is almost high enough for a stock Tavor.

This was my choice on my Tavor. I went to this over others I tried (1-6 Strike Eagle and also an EOTec 512) due to my hand getting impacted on charging. The 3x Spitfire is well clear. None of this is important on the X95 but an issue for my Tar-21.

I wrote Vortex last night to check if the Spitfire 3x was to be updated in the near future (like the 1x AR). Got a reply back within an hour; no update in foreseeable future.
Will order soon. The quick reply from the company sealed the deal.

You should look into the Primary Arms 3x prism scope. I believe a bit more affordable than Vortex and from what people on YouTube have shown (including tiborasauras rex) it is better quality with a great BDC reticle the ACSS reticle. Cheers.

I briefly looked at them, but Vortex took the lead: lifetime warranty (vs 3 years), dual colour reticle and slightly lighter. All for $80 difference. Money I'll happily spend, just to get the warranty.
Guessing resale on the Vortex would be better too.

Don't be too sure, and there's a good chance you will need the Warranty with a vortex
 
Bushnell 1-4 illuminated with a short riser has a magnification fold down flipper great to 200 works to 300 fine love it on my Tar 21
It's calibrated retical for .223 excellent
 
Bought 5 Vortex scopes in the last 6 years. Love the warranty but I have not needed to use it yet. Each scope was 100% dependable with zero issues.
