Tavor problems again!? kinda

Update! after riding around in the truck for another month or so, those little circular D shaped pin retainers have come off again. This time they are nowhere to be found. I might have to haywire some #### together to make sure I have no issues.

And I personally really find the guys who post " MY rifle is totally fine!" in a thread about issues a gun is having to be EXTRA useful, and not a waste of time at all.

Get a good rifle instead. All the AR-18 copy-cats like the Tavor and G36 are all inferior to the AR-15.

In fact, the AR-18 was designed as a cheap substitute for the AR-15..

I live an hour away from the closest range. I live 15 min from crown land that Is open to me to shoot whenever, wherever I want. I will not be getting an AR anytime soon. For me that would be as dumb as buying my sister in law breast implants. Sure it would look good, but If I cant use them then whats the point?

Just to be clear, I'm not necessarily unhappy with my rifle. I know I am hard on sh**. I'm just trying to share anything I learn about this rifle with others so they can better know their guns, and help them out if they come across similar issues. I am not complaining about this gun. At least not anymore.

This gun is in my truck everyday for hundreds of kms and it gets jostled around daily when I have to dig parts or tools outta the back seat. It gets low trigger time but a lot of wear and tear. So odd wear conditions are likely to occur in my guns.

The captive pins themselves haven't come out this time, just the little snap ring deals that are there to make sure they don't. So the operation of the rifle hasn't been affected.

I totally agree with you on the restricted rifle being useless for anything but range shooting, i live on a farm and take my rifles out whenever i please. I will have to look at the tavor my buddy has to see about those snap rings, hopefully replacment rings don't go missing as easily.

I don't own a Tavor, but this is excellent and valid information to share with other owners. Too many "reviews", consist of taking a rifle to the range in a padded case, shooting carefully from the bench under ideal conditions and then back home. That may tell us a little bit about accuracy, sights and ergonomics, but info on how various rifles function in the real world is even more valuable.

Firearms are mechanical devices and as such have their own characteristics, strengths and weaknesses. You don't get rid of them unless the disadvantages outweigh the advantages for your particular use. Personally, having to do a quick pre-fire check on a Tavor is worth the hassle to have a non-restricted, non-registered, shoot anywhere platform. (am I the only one who checks that the gas piston is tight on my M305, or if the mag tube cap on my 870 needs another click, before firing ?)

Shoot, learn, enjoy. Passing on your experiences on CGN is merely a bonus for the rest of us. Thanks for posting.

I have put thousands of rounds through my Tavor and it has been hunting, shooting competitions, in Helicopters, long road trips and my range is a 40 min drive away It has never had a single malfunction or issues with any of its parts or pins. I love AR's but I can not say the same about the Colt or PWS I've trained on and own.

Thanks for posting, OP. My tavor has about 6000 km on it, through all manner of bumps and graded hard pan roads. It rests in a nice case though and I do baby it. Shooting is great but I'm going to go over every component tomorrow.
