Gentlemen,

I'm considering getting away from using a red dot type sight on my Tavor and moving to something magnified like a 1-4 or 2-7. Anyway, I'm looking at mounting options and would like your opinions on offset mounts, QD mounts, etc. Might as well school me on scope options for this type of set up too while we're at it. The more you guys can tell me the better, as I want to make as informed a choice as possible when dispensing my hard earned (and very limited ) shekels. Thanks for the help. Please post pics if you got 'em.

My eyes are getting older and so magnified optics are the way of life for me now. I like EOTecs and I just have a 3X magnifier behind my 512. They are placed as far back as they can go with the built in rear BUIS able to clear the 3X base. The 512 is placed as close to the 3X as I can get it. So close I need to flip the 3X out of the way to turn the 512 off. I found I needed to move all this so far back so to give clearance for my hand from the cocking handel to the 512. I almost sold that optic setup to go to something else because I ripped up my hand cocking the rifle. Then moved the optics back like I explained then all the problems ended and I stuck with my setup. You can read more about it here. http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1401033-Help-me-pick-optics-for-Tavor There were lots of suggestions from the community for other optics. A good read for your search of Tavor optics.

$500 ish...

Love it!

I have a Vortex Spitfire 3x on my Tavor, and with the high mount option that it came with it works perfectly, although it is a fixed magnification scope. I did just mount a Strike Eagle 1-6 on my RFB though, and with the hi mount rings it cost me around $600. The reticule is awesome, in my opinion, and has the option of illumination which is cool.

I sold my Vortex PST 1-4x MRAD, now sporting a Burris XTR: 1.5- 8x ,34 mm tube. and Burris 1 pc/ mount..... much better quality ( glass ) than the Vortex. I am also using a 1/2 riser ( YHM) .

Cheers

I agree with Mike and Xman... TA11 ACOG is my favorite optic. AR332 is a really decent cheaper optic. Personally, given your budget limitations, I'd try to go for a used Elcan OS3 or OS4. I've found both on the EE for less than a grand. OS3 is rarer, but cheaper. OS4 is a bit more common, a bit more pricey, but comes with a QD mount. If budget disallows those options, then a used Burris TAC30 (my favorite cheaper optic), Hi-Lux CMR, or AR332. Good luck!

I have a spare chevron already sighted in for a tavor, I was thinking about selling but I certainly wont let it go at 50%.
To the OP, optics are about frustration management.
If you can handle high frustrations go with budget optics
If you're like me and frustrations are constantly being dealt with at work and you dont want to deal with them on firearms go with top quality

Guess I won't add my $0.02 then :p

I know most guys who run a tavor aren't on a ramen and beans budget. And I wasn't either when I originally bought the rifle. But my financial situation has changed in the last 6 months or so and I have very limited disposable income at present. I'd love to be able to run some of the high end stuff u guys do but for now I'm going to have to make do with some of the more "affordable" options.

ETA: Thanks a lot for all the suggestions so far guys. I'll look into them all before I make my choice, even the fancier ones. Keep them coming if you got more. :)

Sorry to hear that bro, life always goes in cycles good and bad.
Lots of managers and executives here on CGN, good place to network.

Well then, since you said so, I will put my usual plug in for the Elcan Specter DR 1/4x for a lower powered variable optic... definitely puts you on the high side even for those who have healthy budgets, but there is just something about them that I like.

Those Burris scopes are great, although the illumination modules are unreliable.

Personally, I run a Bushnell SMRS 1-8.5 in Vortex precision matched rings.
