I will be purchasing a Tavor this year and I just want these two questions answered. Do the Tavors that are being sold now still have the problem of slam-firing? When using the LAR 10 round mags in the Tavor do people run into any issues. Will the Tavor work fine with 10 rounds in the mag or do you have to load 9 rounds. Thanks for the responses.

And Matt aka mcapranos, you shook on it, if I buy a Tavor you have to buy a Tavor :p

I load mine with 9. Although I have to admit I haven't tried since changing the floor plates to magpul ranger-plates.

No slam fires in this generation. It should all be civilian bolts with a spring now right? (I've got both, and only ever experienced a slam fire when using the civilian bolt without its spring)

Be prepared to slap your LAR mags. It seems that in tavors and most ARs (and every vz58) I've seen them in they need a bit of a smack to get them in and seated.

I have 3 LAR mags. 2 from 4 years ago, one just purchased. They all work well, no issue. But I insert them on an open bolt. If the bolt is forward, the mags have to be slapped in there quite hard since they are so tight.

And never had a slam fire, I have the version with the spring (which we all get now anyway).

Man, watching the video with all those failures is making me reconsider this purchase. Is this a very common problem that a lot of people are having?

Actually the Tavor is fine.

Magpul is a pile of butt.

If you go online and search up magpul and SCAR issues they have a similar problem with the magazine engaging the bolt hold open device. This causes continual wear on the bolt, and seems to have damaged my original military bolt, causing the malfunctions.

Before running any polymer magazine in any non-AR15 rifle, I would always reccomend taking the time to see if its pushing on anything, even a little bit.

It only takes 10 seconds with a file to get the p-mags to play happy with the Tavor and the SCAR. But if you don't know and don't look it can be a pain in the ass.

No problem with mine. Any issue is probably related with aftermarket mags. I had a few issues with the 10 round LAR mags, but since I've been putting 9 rounds it works fine. No issues with the included 5/30 mag. In my opinion they are great rifles.

I was just joking. it's hard to put sarcasm in letter form ;)

It's ok - we know how much Caramel loves his MR1. ;)

The Tavors are fine. If you have PMAGs, just take a Dremel to the notch in the back - or get some of the new Lancer AWF which don't have that issue. As for the LAR-15's, they're twitchy, period (regardless of rifle). Best to swap out the base plate for a Magpul ranger plate, replace with a Magpul follower and file down 3-5mm so you can get 10.5 rounds to load on a closed bolt. You'll end up with a much better (and more reliable) magazine in the end.

I have a first generation Tavor from the first batch brought into the country. Not one single issue, ever. No slam fires with military bolt (I've swapped it out for the civvie bolt).

It's my most used gun. Always comes with me before anything else.

No need to dremel the Pmag. The bolt catch is in the middel of the mag, just like AR15. Nothing interfere with the bolt like on a SCAR.
It's a urban legend, started on CNG.

The only issue with the Pmag with the tavor, the mag don't free fall. You have to take it out.

Whats the deal with the LAR mags? I bought 10 from Questar back in the Spring and I havent had any problems. Is it just a Tavor thing? Mine go into my AR with 10rds closed bolt really easy, in fact better than some of my 30rd metal mags.

Whats the Deelio as they say?

Yeah. Your Tavor may be different from mine. But I would be extremely cautious about that. Its hard to see the bolt hold open in a Tavor. You cant pop em open like you can a scar. But I am quite certain that I've seen mine move under pressure of a Pmag, and not move at all when inserting a USGI mag.

Just because it only moves a little bit, doesn't mean it isn't happening.
