Tavor - slam-fires and LAR 10 rounds mags

Yeah. Your Tavor may be different from mine. But I would be extremely cautious about that. Its hard to see the bolt hold open in a Tavor. You cant pop em open like you can a scar. But I am quite certain that I've seen mine move under pressure of a Pmag, and not move at all when inserting a USGI mag.

Just because it only moves a little bit, doesn't mean it isn't happening.

On the Tavor the mag follower push the bolt stop right in time... just like a AR . It's spring loaded and it can move naturaly.

The problem with the SCAR, its the bolt stop push the solid plastic side of the mag and not the Follower. The bolt stop can't move and is lock on possition. The SCAR bolt stop is build not in the middle (like all AR15 and the Tavor) but 1/8 on the left. I don't see any fonctional advantage of this configuration ...

What the point of cuting the back of your Pmag, where nothing touch it ? (with the tavor) The bolt stop touch only the center of the follower ! You cut for nothing !

IWI never release any warning on that ''legend''... I belive we can trust IWI engineer.

The notch on the PMAG is round - not square - hence the potential problem (regardless of where the bolt catch falls). Both the new PMAG M3 and Lancer AWF have been redesigned with a square notch, and considering that use of the SCAR isn't widespread you can draw your own conclusions as to why that might be.

If TV says his bolt prematurely wore down as a result of almost using PMAGs exclusively, I'm going to take him at face value - because he's probably put a lot more rounds through his Tavor than I have.

Those that want to run unmodified PMAGs in their Tavor may want to invest in one of the used Tavor bolts that Canada Ammo has while available. Just in case...

I know the notch is in V shape, not square . But the bolt stop don't touch this V shape, like on the SCAR.

Cuting to make it square is usefull, becose this small plastic part don't touch any moving part. It's not going to change the timing of the bolt stop.

If TV says he cut a slice on the follower (bolt stop ''pushing'' zone) to slow down the locking timing of the open bolt. Maybe it will change something on the wear on the bolt. But the V shape have nothing to do with the timing of the bolt lock open.

OK maybe TV have a lot more ammo in is Tavor... But I also fire a lot of ammo, I have a bit of experiance in guns and its write Gunsmith on my diploma.

If I remember correctly you have an older Tavor, right?

They may have fixed that issue in the newer ones since I checked mine thoroughly after reading your bolt problem thread. I tried regular PMAGS, LAR10 mags and USGI mags, both empty and with a few rounds in, and saw no difference whatsoever in the amount of lift they produced on the bolt catch. The follower tab on the bolt catch was centered and thin enough to fit well within the groove of each magazine type.

Well, that's my observations on one of the more recent flat-top versions...

My tavor runs 100%. pmags,Lars,gi it doesn't matter. Eats any ammo...

How anybody could think a plastic magazine could harm a steel bolt is beyond me.
