Tavor TAR-21 Aftermarket Optics and Accessories?

Well I finally got my Tavor today from CAN-AMMO. I've noticed that the trigger seems lighter on this Tavor, then my last one from the previous shipment. I don't know why. Going to test it out tomorrow w/ 69 gr FGMM, 69 gr Win Match, and some 55 gr Win Soft. See what we get (knock on plastic).

Specs:

IWI Tavor TAR21 (Feb 2010 manufacturing and inspection date);
Rausch Tactical Rail
Trijicon TA31F (Larue Tac Mount)
Troy BUIS
AAC flash hider
Zahal Rail w/ Larue Tac FUG

I have one of the new ones and thought the trigger pull was extremely heavy.
I cant imagine anything heavier.
Is everybody removing the spring to make it lighter...?

Me too! Heaviest of any rifle I have ever owned, disappointing. Greatly affects shootability.

Nope, I prefer reliability over better feel, after all I do shoot an 8lb Glock trigger ;).

I run a Trijicon Accupoint 1-4x24 with the green triangle in an ARMS#35 mount installed on the factory Tavor rail (last year's batch). works for me :)

Nope. I've shot one with the spring removed. It was lighter. But also less crisp. I'll just deal with the extra trigger weight. My duty pistol has a 12-14 pound DAO trigger anyways. So I can live with it.

I only just recieved my Tavor this afternoon. Three complaints to date (already :redface:);

The fixed M-21 is about 1/2" too low for me. I have to continously hunker down to even see the bullseye

The bullseye itself seems out of focus. It got me looking around for a focus adjustment.

The instructions blow. As nice as it is to have a plasticized owners manual, the pics have no definition and the translation seems to have been subbed out to a malaysian tree monkey.

Other that the above, I'm in love. Although not a machinery marvel like my work-of-art SwissArms CQB, it is definitely a compact piece of art.

I received a TR rail with it, and will be seriously considering throwing on an Elcan DR 1-4. That, or get an adapter to convert my M-21 to be able to mate with the RT rail. Should raise the height just enuf.

No focus on reflex sights, usually the longer the eye relief the better (is it pushed up the rail as far as you can mount it?) also do not focus on the reticle but rather on the target.

The Tavor is a really well designed rifle under its skin. Its really unfortunate that they botched up the M21 and factory irons. Put an Aimpoint on and its a world of difference. What ever flavor of scope you like is equally fantastic.

Just get a MARS already. We're up to 7 pre-orders, we only need 3 more before CanAm will order them in!!!

Are they pricy? Yes. But you get what you pay for! The competition isn't that much cheaper either. Take a look at Eolad prices.

The Mars is integral to the tavor. It activates when the safety disengages. Turns off when the safety is engaged. The dot auto adjusts to the ambient environment. User controls can also set the brightness levels.

Other then the integration the mars is only slightly less abysmal. The Marines had them for a bit and were pretty quick to ditch em. Nice if curios are your thing but otherwise stick with what works.

I haven't yet mounted the RT rail, so my observations are based on how the Tavor came out of the box. I will try to heed your advice to not focus on the sights, may save me a few bucks in the long run ;)

Once your rail is on, I guess I'll be able to try different options. Does RT also sell an adapter to mount M-21's to typical rails? I coulda sworn I saw one somewhere...

Well, that goes to prove that everyone has their own idea of what's comfy. I feel like I have to force my head down low enuf to see the bullseye. I'm sure that an extra 1/2" would prolly do the trick.
I'll be looking to find that elusive M-21 adapter. At the very least, it'll allow me to stick the sight on a variety of rifles.

I heard good things about them. They recieved top marks after "cast lead". Quite the reliable optic, just about undestructable. The problem with the M21 is the reticle and the washing out. Both of these problems are non-existant with the Mars.
