Zahal.org came through and the package arrived the other day, straight from Israel. I added a T-Shirt but they threw in the fridge/gun cabinet magnet :)

Unfortunately the holes do not match up on the stock handguard, so you have to enlarge the front hole and drill a new one for the rear:

Of course the allen screws used were a different size than the allen screws that hold the handguard onto the rifle. Too bad they were not the same size, one less tool to drag around. Might be a future mod.

One issue is the rail is too tight to the trigger guard and there is a lip at the front of the handguard. This prevents the sliding on of any rail accessories like the KAS handgrip shown below:

The only way to get that on was to loosen both screws to lower the rail, slide it on and then tighten the handguard. So looks like we're limited at present to accessories that are designed to clip/bolt on and not slide on.

It does give the rifle a whole different feel which I like but I'll shop around for a more suitable grip first.

So in summary:

Pros:
- Designed to fit the handguard perfectly, even has milled channels for the ribs that are molded into the handguard.
- Nicely placed for a grip or flashlight/grip.
- Low profile, does not feel uncomfortable holding with rail attached.
- Now we can make our rifle resemble the "swiss army 1001 attachments" like the AR's can ;-)

Cons:
- Cannot slide on accessories
- Rail is an open channel in the middle so items that need slots in the middle of the rail won't lock on (the KAC grip has a stud that is meant to lock into a rail in the middle but it still did grip pretty well). Anything that uses a long bolt or just the edges of the rail should be fine.
- Have to drill new holes in stock handguard.
- Cannot use Harris Bipod stud anymore, will need a rail adapter.

Here is a picture from the FAB Defense 2009 Catalog of the item:

Here are some pics showing an issued tactical grip. You can see from the one pic it has a large bolt on the side, likely solves the issue of not being able to slide it on:

I emailed FAB Defense and their reply was:

Did some digging and sure enough, it has a side mount option:

Mako in the states sells them but Wolverine is listed as a dealer and their catalog shows:

And what exactly is the problem with sliding something on to the rail before you reinstall the forend piece? Or take the forend back off and install the grip if you didn't have it at the time of installation? I think it would look great with one of those CAA folding grips.

The handguard currently is attached with a pair of allen head screws so it's rather inconvenient, but good point, likely easier than messing with the rail itself.

Need some method to use pins on the front handguard (like an MP5) or some sort of thumb screw to make it much easier.

The main place is Zahal.org:

However, it is made by FAB industries of which Wolverine Supplies is a dealer, so they should be able to get it as well.

Zahal shipped it very quickly from Israel and has other nifty items like Tavor pins/shirts etc lol.

Forgot to ask, that CAA grip does look nice. Who distributes Command Arms in Canada?

Hi Tim,

I would assume that once you put the grip on you would just leave it there especially if it is the folding one, so you would only be inconvenient once.

As to where to get the CAA stuff, I got mine from Williams in Port Perry Ontario, Wolverine is a distributor as well as Fab Sports I think. There is a new name for the company but I think still referring to it as CAA shouldn't be a problem. I know Brownells stocks some stuff. There are two version of the folding grip, one is a 3 position (forward, straight up, back) and a 5 position (with half way points between F & S and F & B). I like the Tavor very much but am too poor to own one.

Well one followup to shooting with the rail... gloves slide around like a you-know-what on it. Wasn't able to get a nice grip (no gloves fine). Next time will try shooting with a grip.

Cheers
Tim
