tavor trivia

So they used thin aluminum rails as a bearing surface for a steel bolt carrier on a combat rifle? What's the gold color about?

You must be mistaken.

they use aluminum frames in some 1911 pistols with a steel slide ? the AR-15 has a steel bolt carrier with a aluminum receiver ? im gona say the guy from Israel knows what hes talking about ..

The gold coloured aluminum is undyed anodizing. have a look at a well used USGI AR magazine.

I have asked IWI to confirm the material. I have never been told it was titanium.

You can't compare the AR15 upper to the Tavor's "bird cage". The AR15 is a tube of fairly thick material. The Tavor is the minimum of material with relatively thin rails. That's why I was skeptical.

Also, the AR15 has the charging handle to act as a guide rail, which can easily be replaced if it wears out. As well all the forces are directly in line with the barrel/bolt so having guide rails isn't so much of a requirement as a gun with a piston. Hence why many AR15 piston conversions caused carrier tilt unless some form was used to reduce it.

No, it isn't aluminum. It's titanium.

As for Ebola needing 2 people to remove the barrel, someone is doing something really wrong. I'll pop a barrel off in 5 minutes with only a barrel wrench and my two hands. It's not brain surgery. Turn barrel lock, pull barrel out the front.

I agree . Put the gun upstage down , hold the stock with your thigh, press the cam lock in with a small allen key with your left hand, then use your right hand with barrel wrench & turn the cam. I made awrench with an allen key. (12mm?)

the gold color finish could be the same corrosion protection they use on aircraft parts

it is a chemical bath called alodine and it turn the metal a gold hue

Gee, what happens when a bunch of Canadian shooters argue the details of the construction of the Tavor with a guy from Israel who's handle is Pretorian. I'm laughing thinking the guy in Israel is Duvdevan or something similar. :D
