I was wondering what are the common upgrades (if any) that people do to their Tavors? What are the deficiencies and what upgrades are available to fix or make better. IE/ trigger etc.

I will do something about the trigger one day, I just did not put the time to research it properly yet.

Well it depends really. Some people dislike the trigger (mine is a newer gun with the "extra" trigger spring already removed. The trigger is long and still a little heavy but smooth. I have no problem hitting a 250 yard plate with my red dot. Some people like the midewest industries keymod handguard. Another option is a lower handguard rail from zahal. Thats what i use with a magpul rvg and its good. Some people find the optics too low so they add the new upper rail which brings the optic height to the same level as the AR.
So really, add what you want. Learn the gun and get comfortable first then startto tinker.

I recently bought the spacer that Aimpoint makes for their QRP mount...and it raised my PRO just high enough that it is now the perfect height for my Tavor. I liked how cheap this solution was ($30) and I still get to keep the factory rail with the built in BUIS sight.

The one and only most important is a top rail solution that lets you see your sights. Sure, a riser on your optic lets you see the optic, but I literally couldn't get the backup sights to line up. Too low with respect to the comb, therefore, a total waste. They should eliminate them from the design.

My suggestion is a Gearhead rail of some sort from Zahal.

Hey everyone. I am new at this forum stuff. I am looking into optics for my tavor. I know the go to answers are Reddot and the like. I am looking at all options. Relying on a battery for my sight doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling.

Yeah...but the battery in my Aimpoints last 50,000 hours on setting six, lol. Several years of being left constantly on.

Manticore Arms Tavor Accessories

Don't know about the availability of Manticore in Canada, but it's pretty cool stuff.

An Aimpoint sight will run for years (literally) on a battery. I have a T1 on my Mk18 that's been left on for the last two years straight on the same battery, and I expect it to last another three.

You can also look at Trijicon (no batteries for the most part) but the tritium inserts fade after about eight to ten years.

But before all of that you have to decide what roll you are going to use your rifle in, Long Distance, CQB, General Service? Answer that question and you'll have a better idea of which direction you'll want to take the platform. Just, for the love of all that is right, DO NOT make it into a kitchen sink rifle.

Get the best of all worlds, not just both!

I have an Elcan Specter DR 1-4x and just bought another today!

Key features that draw me to it:
-true 1x
-1x to 4x with the flick of a throw lever
-normal scope reticle with the ability to illuminate either just a red dot or the whole cross hairs (no need to realy on electronics)
-small over-all optic body size for a 1-4x(I hate excess bulk!)
-amazingly clear glass, made by Rayethon in the same factory that makes IMAX cinema cameras
-made in Canada
-used by the US special forces

Just be prepared to pay the price, my first one was $1566 shipped and insured, todays is $1650 shipped and insured. They usually run $2200+tax new.

There's a lot more out there now than there used to be! I'd suggest: start with good optics, and shoot a lot! Then you might start changing things here or there.

Two schools of thought: One lightweight, one heavy.

Well I guess I really want to be able to reach out 150yds ish. And not impede myself with close shots . I am still feeling the sting of buying it. So I am not looking at dumping a couple grand into optics. And another question. What is a kitchen sink gun?

A plate at 200 yards shouldn't be too hard to do with an un magnified red dot.

I think the term "kitchen sink rifle" is probably someone who has bolted "everything but the kitchen sink" on to their gun...lol.

Start with this, + trigger upgrade. I don't like the look of all of these aftermarket forearms. Takes away from the lines of the Tavor...

I hear ya! I waited a year before an elcan came up on the ee that I could afford.

In the mean time I used an Eotech EXPS 2-0.

Beings the wallet is still pretty dry since you just got it, have a look at the new Aimpoint clone: Holosun. Its cheap enough it allows you to save for an optic while you figure out what optic you really want.
