Tavor vs Swiss Arms(Help me!)

I'm a big backer of the Sigs, but the Tavor offers something very unique.
Based on that and the short time I've had one, I'd have no reservation with recommending the Tavor as a 'first purchase'.
As mentioned, it really does depend on the type of shooting you want or do with your rifles though.

Just purchased a Tavor myself and I am very happy with it so far. I've yet to do any real accuracy testing with it aside from zeroing an acog, but from that alone I'm thinking this thing is well capable of very good accuracy -well below 2 moa, even with a 12lb trigger. The controls are growing on me and while not light (8 and a halfish pounds) the balance is very good.

I see I see...

Honestly I plan on running around the range looking awesome. :D

Except for the awesome factor, I'll be pretty much just using the rifle for long hikes, nailing crows and other varmint. I think the tavor would be the better choice since it seems so freakin compact and fun to sling around the back. Mad accuracy is not top priority for me ATM. I'll be nailing crows at 100 yards and what not.

Get the Tavor. If you don't like it throw it up on the EE and it'll be gone in a day or two - then you can buy the SA.

Couple of Tavors 4 sale on the E&E as we speak..

I've just held the Tavor, never fired..feels different but I'd add one in my inventory.
I have the SA Green Classic and love it! Probably one of the best made & performing semis outhere, can't go wrong with the swiss!

Get the Swiss, you won't regret it!

''If you take the bipod off and get a lite scope, things will balance out nicely on your PE90.''

I know your kinda set on this Tavor business now but honestly, the Swiss rifle is the better buy. From the moment you rack the action of the Sig, you can feel it's quality. I've owned a few Sigs and a few Tavors, and I've shot them all extensively.

Here are the pros and cons. Remember this is my list of likes and dislikes, everyone's opinions vary.

Swiss Arms

Pros:

- Good accuracy (Proof with factory target)
- Extremely high quality
- Easy to strip (No Tools)
- Easy to maintain
- Very durable and solid
- Smooth action
- Trigger is crisp and clean (Can be upgraded)
- New lowers may be available to use AR mags
- Comes with Bi-Pod (Not the greatest but it is there)
- Folding stock (Easy for transport)
- Collapsing stock available (For use with armor or heavy clothing)
- Great iron sights
- Rail system available

Cons:

- Price tag (Accessories are expensive too)
- Charging handle on the right side
- Weight (A bit on the heavier side)
- Does not use AR mags (pmags) - NOT a CON for everyone
- Long
- Reciprocating charging handle
- Fixed muzzle device
- 20" barrel (prefer as short as possible 18.5")

Tavor

Pros:

- Short (Definitely not as big in person)
- Light
- Charging handle on the left side (Great for drills)
- Non-reciprocating charging handle
- Removable flash hider
- Easily changed barrel (if you have the tool)
- Easy to get at the action for cleaning
- Takes ALL AR mag types (Pmags, 10rnd etc etc)

Cons:

- High mounted optics
- Fixed length of pull (long)
- Tools required to fully disassemble
- Folding sights were not the greatest
- Charging handle was very heavy and stiff
- No shooting off hand with out eating brass
- Limited real estate to mount lights or lasers
- Sling system was not the greatest (I don't like tying my sling to my rifle)

I'm sure there is more but this was the big stuff. Ultimately, I would choose the Swiss to take to war over the Tavor any day of the week.

I should add that I've done quite a bit of armed hiking with both and they both were very portable. The Tavor was a little nice to sling while on the quad!

You bet...I own both. The Swiss is FAR more accurate. If you're concerned about hiking compactness, don't forget about that folding stock.

With most generic ball ammo, and even with match ammo that I've tested, my tavor does 2 to 2.5 moa at best, with 3.5 to 4 moa typical. Although winchester white box does about 1.8" (3 shot groups). This is why I've relugated mine to more of a a CQB role (besides, it's really compact for this role). Whereas my Swiss is a "reach out and touch them" piece (both far and near).

Good point I forgot to mention, which makes the Swiss as short as any AR Carbine or close to the Tavor. As well I'm not shy on shooting the Swiss to 500m and beyond.

Angryeyebrows: Very accurate comparison of both rifles, I would like to add the Tavor trigger pull is mediocre at best.

Have any of you shot the Tavor out to 500m?
Even just zeroing the acog mine was printing 1.5 moa.
I haven't pulled the heavy spring or benched it yet-I guess I know what I'm doing this weekend...
