Tavor Vs Type-97

It's no catastrophic failure, but I've had to use my spare firing pin spring in my Tavor and am waiting for a warranty replacement from North Sylva. A couple of range trips ago, suddenly experienced very light primer strikes. Looked at the BCG and noticed that the firing pin spring did something really weird...walked over the flat part of the back of the firing pin and a couple of coils were jamming against the back of the BCG with the hammer strike, not allowing the pin to move all the way in and causing the light primer strike. Sh*t happens, even with close to $3k.

Jkg. of course but seriously I've only handled the T97, but to me the Tavor's butt(stock) looks too big. I've bought the FTU and likely will buy Lower as well which will put ergos on a par with Tavor. Then again WHEN I add a Tavor to collection I'd likely buy the aftermarket trigger and a lower forestock. No offence to the AR lovers, but any bullpup is a step into the future. (and I'll likely aquire an AR after the Tavor)

Loves me the AR platform but, loves me 5" less wasted space at the rear that bullpups offer.

Lol, bullpups have been around for many years, they are far from the future of firearms. If they were superior to standard configuration rifles then more military and law enforcement groups would be using them. They are becoming less popular with professional fighters if anything. Even the Israeli military only use them with a select small portion of their forces, the rest use an AR platform.
I have nothing against bullpups, I've owned a couple and spent some time at the range with a few Tavor's and a T97 and there is nothing wrong with them if that's what you like but other than the short overall length there really isn't anything about them that makes them superior to an AR or other standard configuration rifle.
If it wasn't for the stupid Canadian gun laws making the AR restricted for no reason other than some douchebag decided it should be there would be no need to own anything else. A quality 12 inch barrel AR will be just as compact as a Tavor and will outshoot it at all distances.
The Tavor and the other non restricted options we have access to are not worth paying double the price of a decent AR other than to get the non restricted status. If you spent the same cash on an AR as a Tavor costs you would have a top quality rifle that would be just as reliable and shoot groups less than half the size of any Tavor or T97.

It still boggles my mind how some guys can justify spending $900 for a Chinese built disposable rifle then drop another $400 on the FTU then consider spending another ridiculous amount for the lower that is supposedly going to be available soon. Why wouldn't you just buy a Tavor and save yourself the trouble and have a rifle with a warranty and parts support?

The only bullpup I want is a Desert Tech MDR to go with my DTA SRS but unfortunately we won't see those till early 2016 (my best guess).
 
So you rather settle for a Ford ranger when it time to buy a Pickup truck ? Its almost a truck so it good enough....

I couldn't afford the Tavor, So I saved my money and worked a 2nd job on weekends, until I could. settling for an inferior product just to have a bullpup doesn't make sense.
 
Having fired them both (the T97 being in the FTU configuration), I didn't really see much justification for the huge price difference.

It comes down to how much you plan on tossing out the window, because the LPC have already set their eyes on banning these so called "exotic military weapons".

Nah, they are both rifles, and they are both bullpups. The T97 isn't "almost" a rifle, or "almost" a bullpup.

Think of it this way, do you want an Acura or a Honda? They are both very similar, and both are good, but one is more expensive because it offers a few more features over the other.

Well said. I already started typing a similar reply before I read yours lol.

For me it wasn't about being able to afford it, it was what I got extra for the money. The answer is not much. I have grown to like the mag release.. And the safety isn't a huge issue.

I'll take a T97 and 5000 rounds of ammo over a tavor.
 
Not a Honda vs. Acura... Both those are two branches of the same brand, a brand with a reputation for high quality and reliability. A more fair comparison would be a Yugo vs. a Cummins. One is cheap*, mass produced and lacks parts availability in this world where the other is a work horse with a stellar reputation and dealers with parts to back up the product.

That logistical problem never existed till the propietary t97 came along. And norinco doesn't care enough to make extra parts. They have plenty of customers already. And most people who shoot a lot won't buy junk like that anyways, because they realize ammo costs will outweigh rifle costs very quickly. So combine someone that is cheap with someone who doesn't shoot a lot, and you have a winning combo for the t97. owner is happy, norinco is happy, north sylva is happy, whatever retailer is happy. everyone wins.

Don't forget the Tavor is made by Unicorns, so it must be better and be worth nearly three times the cost of the T97. It just depends on what the perceived value of it is to the person buying it.

You're just creating more T97 users. The more guys who sell their T97 to buy a Tavor, the more T97 users there will be, because they will tell their friends, and their friends will tell their friends, and a whole lot of people who can't afford Tavors will buy T97's instead. If anything, you are doing Norinco a favor. ;)
 
Then ill convert those people.... LOL..... and the wheel keep turning... lol...

If you can afford a T97 you can afford a Tavor,Just save up for a few more weeks. Dont settle for less.

But a serious note, lots of people dont even know what a T97 or a Tavor is, Had 4 guys ask me today alone what I was shooting.... So take them out and spread the word.
