Tavor Vs Type-97

I bought Tavor before Type 97 came along. Never had problem with either, accuracy type 97 just groups better for me. Only real advantage for tavor is mag release nothing else. Balance is way better on type 97.

For all the legends about type 97 reliability please send photos otherwise it is just propaganda

But a serious note, lots of people dont even know what a T97 or a Tavor is, Had 4 guys ask me today alone what I was shooting.... So take them out and spread the word.

This is true. When I had the chance to fire both (not on the same day), there were a lot of people who would ask the owners where they got them, how they were NR, etc...

If anything, both rifles will be head turners at the range, from my experience ;)

Not a Honda vs. Acura... Both those are two branches of the same brand, a brand with a reputation for high quality and reliability. A more fair comparison would be a Yugo vs. a Cummins. One is cheap*, mass produced and lacks parts availability in this world where the other is a work horse with a stellar reputation and dealers with parts to back up the product.

Still not an accurate comparison at all really is it?,a better comparison would be comparing a focus RS v a focus ST would it not?
I fail to understand all the T97 haters out there,it is a decent rifle, and still no one has posted any issues with their T97 have they?
I'd say that the underdog rifle is proving a lot of you guys wrong with the reliability, must make some of you feel pretty stupid by now, harping on about 'disposable rifles',and 'Norc crap' etc..etc..

Issues posted on this forum

FTF aftermarket magazines.
ATRS pistol mags dont fit
Barrel gouges
Not ambi
mushy trigger
have to cut front post to install FTU
ect....

Im not hating, just stating a few things I can remember. So its more of a porsche to a focus.

But thats my opinion after shooting both.... and yes norcs are disposable riffles. when these T97 hit 500$ ill get one, until then they are overpriced for what they are.

Now lets get into the Tavor issues

Rail height
Trigger is heavy
No QD mounts

All Tavor issues are easily addressed without cutting up your gun.

I have never understood where the notion of a "disposable" rifle comes from. You might as well say that Lee Enfields and M-16s are disposable rifles as well since they were also mass produced for military use.

This has no bearing on the T97. The T97 is a heavily modified civilian version of a chinese sub par rifle. It was designed to be handed out in mass to an army that is largly dispensable due to quantity of soldiers. When one soldier falls there is a 100 more behind him, so rifle only has to out last the soldier.

Between that and the fact that the only way to have parts for your rifle is to canibalize another, many get turned off from it and would just rather have well designed, well thought out, 100% reliable rifle.

How is that a better comparison when one company makes both those vehicles? Mine seems like a pretty accurate comparison, I even used examples as to why...

FTF aftermarket magazines, your taking the piss right? NEVER had a problem with the mag it came with or LAR15 mags, yeah I have heard some mags have issues, but then those mags have issues with several rifles do they not?

ATRS pistol mags don't fit,so buy LAR mags, simple and cheap, again NEVER had an issue!

Barrel gouges? Never seen one on mine,as I am sure many others have no gouges

Mushy trigger? the trigger is fine once you have fired a few rounds.

As for the FTU,yeah you have to cut the sights in order to fit it,or you could just buy the proper scope for the rifle,or fit a rail adapter, low scope mounts, and your scope couldn't you?

The ambi issue is not a problem for me,and the mag release is fine, the only thing that I would change is moving the safety closer to the trigger.

All in it cost me under $1,300 for my T97,and the FTU,I'll take that over a Tavor any day until the Tavor price drops to something much more reasonable, even then I really enjoy using the T97,it has been a flawless rifle, accurate enough, and fun to shoot while still leaving me plenty of funds for other things.

I bought a norinco AR. My first rifle. Gun works great but looks like a toy. After that experience I would next time spend the more money aand get an AR that looks and feels like a AR

Its a great AR for $500 But doesnt compare to 900-1900 AR's.

I have never held or shot the Tavor, but I do own the T97, and it has a few minor glitches with various mags I have used, and it dents the brass cases when it ejects them, but honestly, for the price, its more than I need out of a rifle of this type. I could never spend as much as the Tavors go for, but thats just my own personal "gun spending limit" issue

Every mechanical device breaks eventually and when your T-97 breaks good luck finding replacement parts.

I'm still waiting... where are the broken T97s? Do you have insider information?

In your world, are there huge stockpiles of parts for Tavors laying about in every gun shop in Canada?
Do you think Mossberg MVP parts are readily available everywhere?

IF something breaks THEN worry about it: I know some are hoping they break because for some reason they simply have to find any excuse to hate a T97 or any Norinco.

How many people here have Chevys and rant on about their neighbours who have Fords?
Do people criticize LG TVs because they bought a SONY? Nothing is perfect.

There's a name for that... ##### envy. :p

Buy what you like and shoot it.
Be proud of your skills, not the tool.

I don't care what people shoot. It's all interesting and WE ARE ALL IN THE SAME BOAT.

You don't have one?
You don't like them?

Don't buy one.
