tavor vs vz 58

Absolutely no comparison. The tavor is the finest .223 I have. If you really want a vz58 get one in x39 they are more reliable. The cz is a great rifle and worth every penny but its not in the same league as a tavor.

I shoot twice as well with my ACR than I do with my Tavor, even though the Tavor is shorter, and balances better. Not to mention the rifle being front heavy keeps the muzzle down much better than the Tavor. After shooting them both extensively, I would say each rifle has their quirks and one isn't necessarily "better" than the other, just different. They're both great, quality firearms.

Wanting a .233 tac rifle, is the 3 times the cost 3 times the gun? Accuracy difference?

First look at what round you're looking for. If you want a 5.56 then go Tavor, if you want a 7.62x39 go cz858.
I'd research the round first, before the gun. Quite different feel

Personally I prefer the 7.62 feel, but I'm also looking for a .223 and I'll be getting a Tavor when I can scrounge enough cash. So then i'll have both,

Cz doesn't even compare to a Tavor. That's like apples to oranges. Two different types of rifles, so pick what you want.. black or red. Careful though, cause you know what they say...once you go black... you never go back. LOL

The 5.56 VZs have some issues. The tavor is a good CQB gun. Sold mine and bought a NR ACR. Much more accurate and way better for gophers.

What do you want to use the gun for? 7.62x39 is a lot cheaper ammo wise. Both guns are very reliable.

The Tavor is in a class of it's own, it's a bullpup...

If you want a bullpup, that is priced around the VZ in 223, wait a bit & grab a T97 when they arrive...

I have a CZ858, but I would not compare it to my Tavor... Totally different platforms!

Cheers
Jay

I own both. In a few different barrel lengths.

My Vz58's are the rifles I give to other people when we're out hiking & shooting and they "want something cool too."

Nobody else gets to carry the Tavor anywhere ;)

The restricted versions of each are both fun and pretty similar at 25yards indoors. The Vz makes bigger fireballs is all:

Breakdown:

You want optics? Tavor is easier, but Vz58 can do it.

You want AR-15 magazines? Tavor does that out of the box. Vz58 is a ~$100 upgrade

You want a bipod? Vz58 probably wins here. Easy to find lots of rail options and pick your bipod. Zahal does sell a Tavor flat rail that you can install on a handguard.

You want a flashlight? Vz58 probably wins here too. There are some good ways to do lights on a Tavor, but without a quad rail your options are just a little more limited.

You want something thats great to carry? Tavor kicks ass. Vz58 with a folded stock isn't too shabby either.

From my Tavor loving and Vz owning position: the Tavor is a fantastic rifle out of the box. The Vz58 can be a great rifle. But after substantial upgrades of grips, mag releases, bolt releases, sights etc. Vz's are more of a project.

Neither are what I'd call "accurate". They're fighting rifles, not MOA bench guns, so if this is something critical to you and you plan on posting up shots of cloverleafs at 200yds, you should probably look at different platforms. The Tavor is the more accurate of the two, fwiw. I have both, shoot both, love both.

Wait, there's your answer... buy both! Get the VZ in 7.62 though. Oh, and as TV said above, expect to be into it for $1250 min by the time you're modding it, not including optic mounts. I picked up my Tavor used around $2500. so only 2x price diff

Only thing I could possibly add to TV Press Pass is cleaning.

Tavor is a pain in the backside.
CZ, spray oil, dump a kettle of boiling water over it, when it dries spray more oil and stand on rag in safe.

If you want a CZ go for the 7.62 vesion for the cheap ammo. Otherwise Tavor all the way.

For my money I'd go with a benelli mr1, I know the tavor has a huge following here & I'll probably get heat for it. Buy my hard earned $$ would go to Benelli on this one. The vz-58 in .223 has had a few problems here and the mr1 seems to be a great in between rifle for both.. it's "tactical", shoots .223 and is very accurate.

Don't forget the tavor also has the worst trigger ever made.

The Tavor trigger is decent for a bullpup. Yes, it's long and heavy, but that is to be expected. It is also smooth and you know when it's going to break. Sure, it has nothing on the Swiss Arms trigger or a decent AR trigger, but they are completely different rifles.
