Tavors arriving soon

just remember "begin to ship tomorrow" doesn't mean it will be shipped tomorrow, opening every box to to varified the serial number matches the invoice, assign the right rifle to each order, send the serial number with the corresponding PAL number to the CFC, wait for the CFC to process the transfer, packaging, than finally shipping, I don't know how many rifles there are in this batch, I doubt this will be a speedy process at all.

I know I'm gonna get shot for asking a question which has prolly been answered 1.77 million times, but how/what do you register afterwards? Is the barrel itself considered a restricted firearm?

I'm asking because I'm tempted to get a barrel as well. Matter of fact, I'm constantly scouring CanAms site to see what else I want to have thrown in with the Tavor shipment.

Christ, I need help....

Thanks so much to the 100's of concerned brethren who DIDN'T respond ;)

So once more, seeing as the shipment is in and an answer is imperative. If I buy the shorter barrel, does my Tavor automatically become restricted even if the shorter barrel isn't installed?

I was one of those guys too. I also bought one on the second batch as well then later sold my first gen one. And Yes I will post a picture when I recieve my short barrel. :D:ar15:

You, you sold your Tavor? After waiting all that time, you just up'n sold it? Have you no scruples, man? Where's your sense of right & wrong? Where's your pride, where's your honour, where's your fidelity? I'm....I'm flabbergastificated :D

Email received: (as received)

The Tavors cleared Customs this morning so our owner is there picking
them up as we speak.

We will begin shipping tomorrow or the day after.

What the hey? I never received no notification. What the hey? :(

Yeah sure, party-pooper. Now finish us all off by saying that there's no Sanny Klaus and that we'll never get to protect the Motherland from Zombies with our Tavors :D

Well I did have two and I only sold the one so I could afford to buy a HK G36K. ;):D

Yes, I picked them up at the airport today. The process of verifying, inspection, pinning, packing, shipping, etc will begin tomorrow.

BTW, the short barrels have sold better than expected, so if you want one, order ASAP to avoid disappointment.

All the outstanding accessories appear to be in as well, LH bolts, bipods, extra factory rails, etc.

pete, regarding swapping out the barrels I think there is some clause that if the barrel remains on the firearm for more then thirty days in MUST be reclassified as restricted...at least I THINK I read that somewhere here...don't quote me on that, and of course don't ask me about the logic behind it. Basically the way I see it, firearm is Non-Restricted, have long barrel in bush and either or at range.

From my understanding of the Canadian Firearms Act, and my own research, the second you put a short barrel on the Tavor it becomes a restricted firearm. The change does not have to be reported to the CFC for 30 days, in the case that you are just testing it out for a short period of time. However the restrictions in usage take effect immediately.

Interesting...tshelrud. Sooooo, I wonder what the outcome of a bunch of gunnutz swapping barrels constantly reclassifying their firearms would be? Swap to short = reclassify to restricted, swap back to long request reclass to non, lather, rinse repeat. Man I hate our firearms legislation.

Its not actually that complicated. If you change your firearm's barrel length so that it would be classified as restricted, you simply treat it as a restricted firearm, until you change it back to a non-restricted barrel length. If you choose to keep the short barrel on the firearm for more than 30 days than you simply call up CFC and let them know. They'll mail you out a new certificate for free and forward the file to your CFO. I think there would be an issue if you only have a PAL, and not a RPAL, because you would then be in possesion of a firearm you are not licensed to possess. That being said, there are not than many rifles in Canada, that are not already classified as restricted by name/type, that have quick change barrels or uppers where a person would be regularly swapping back and forth. I guess you could take your non-restricted Tavor, change out to the short barrel, and then go play with it off a certified range, however you are playing with fire. In the eyes of any police officer, who is not a gun weeney himself, the Tavor looks like it should be restricted in the first place. If you get stopped and try and pull the wool over his eyes, he is gonna dig and you'll get burnt. Be a responsible firearms owner and all will be fine.
