I cant find the wooo hooo smiley but what the hey WOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOO

I got the ok to buy a Tavor for CQB this year. Already ordered from the shop today. Two in stock and ready to be shipped.........looks like it should be in my hand end of the week, beginning of next. I love my wife. I almost broke down and bought an AR, infact I had put an offer in on one.....Glad I was to slow and it was sold.

Not saying the Tavor is better, just wanted one more than AR. I like NR statues.

So come on guys surly someone is running one in CQB. How do you like it. What did you do for optics......slings.......

If you don't run one, what would you put on it for optics.........

hehehe:cool: I really didn't think this was going to come together. Still almost cant believe it.

wooo hoooo

I think you may find mag changes are a little slower than the AR platform. This is my observation at least. Reaching "behind" the trigger seems to take "just that much" more time.

I was on a course with a former Israeli soldier who said he found the AR platform faster than the Tavor as well.

You may need to work on your mag change drills ;) :D

It doesn't matter, shoot it, have fun! :)

If you plan on using it solely for CQB get either a "red dot" type optic, or a variable glass... something in the 1.5-4 range.

Slings... well.... that's almost personal preference.

PS: they are a very nice rifle to shoot, easy pointer, nice balance. I like 'em... congrats!

Perhaps the fastest way to do a mag. change with a Tavor is to get the new mag. in your hand, bring it back, hitting the mag. catch on the front of the mag. well, dropping the empty one. Push the new one into the well, with your left thumb hitting the bolt release as the mag. is seated. Not on a par with an AR, but no doubt workable.
A low powered variable might be a better choice if you plan on ever doing anything other than CQB.

What  ? The M16 is a machine gun? Who posted this video Windy Cookoo and the Dippers?

Near the end of the video, after he shoots the 300m plate, he swipes the roof/ceiling of the range. My RSO background was ready to scream, "Keep yer muzzle pointed down range!!!"

Okay, back to the CQB fun... like Plink (he should know, Plink is fast) said, the mag changes might be a bit challenging! The Tavor platform is a shztload of fun! It works for my smaller (but fatter) frame!

The Israelis like me because they designed this rifle with me and my goofy shooting positions really nicely. Now if I could just afford one....

One of the nice things about learning to do the mag change is you can practice this at home any time. I always put a cushion down to catch the mags, no point in stressing them if you don't have to.....and marks on the hardwood are hard to justify.

Glad you are getting the rifle YOU want. That will make it more fun to use.

For optics, I really like the idea of a low powered variable. Means you are good to go to stretch the rifles legs if/when you want. I saw on a thread in the Black rifles forum that LeBarons is selling Bushnell 6500 1.25x6 for like $370 IIRC. Don't know anything about the scope but it might be an option.

Like some others, I like my Falcon Menace 1.5x5. Not high end but seems solid and workable so far after a season of shooting.

actually mag changes with the tavor is faster. Just use the back of your weapon hand to push the mag release. I removed my video from youtube but I'll see if I'll post it up again.

A neat thing also is taht you can reload just as fast weak-side like you can if it was on your strong-side.

Please do post it again, I've not seen anyone with a Tavor able to do a mag change as fast as on an AR. I'm sure it's all in the technique! :)

The secret to a quick Tavor reload is to use the back of the strong hand to drop the mag. Also, if you do it after the 4th shot you shave some time as there's no need to reach for that silly bolt catch in the back...just saying.

This! Opening your fire control hand is the fastest I've found.

I've been practising, and mag-pul helps a lot. But I know I can definitely get faster. When I reach the point when I'm not embarrassed as f**k with my performance I'll be sure to put a video up.

I'm using an urban ERT sling with a few different mounting options, but the factory sling does well too. As for optics . . . I'm indecisive as all hell. Take a look:

Yes please do post it.

As for the rest thanks guys....now for the research to begin. I am lucky to be getting the Tavor, so if I can buy any optics at all, I am going to have to stay on the cheep side for now.

I had a Tavor for a while. They definitely point real nice, and the balance and weight would be much nicer to point all afternoon than a 20" AR15, or a <gasp> PE90 (you'd need at least 18" arms to even consider pointing a PE90 all day without getting wobbly arms).

The Swiss Arms carbines are about a good as it gets. Not much weight out front, low recoil with a real smooth impulse (think a 20" AR with a break), and when coupling mags, a mag change that can't be beat.
Way more accurate than a Tavor to boot.

That last part is true of any semi though :p

I want to see the Tavor vid too. I really know very little about them myself.
