Tax on used pistol

I have bought merchandise from Alberta, Sask, ON, and NB and have never been charges PST. Without HST in play and it doesn't for BC, I don't see local vendors in other Provinces having any capability to collect and remit BC tax. I certainly fail to see why they would be motivated to do so. They are in a position to undercut BC retailers by 7% assuming they buy wholesale at the same level.

The same way you ASSUMED they weren't when you made the following reply.
You are right about that. As a result, I did provide a more complete response in my post #10

Something about a pot and kettle...
You have twice indicated without reservation or qualification that the OP was charged correctly. Do you know for a fact that the seller is registered to collect PST?

They could be registered to collect PST, it all depends on how they do business. However, for the majority of single-location businesses, it is less likely they are registered to collect a provincial tax from a different province from the one in which they are physically located.

Shweet! The bore is pristine!

Still have that old 3-screw I picked up from you and lovin' it. May I'll grab that Colt one day too! :onCrack:

I remember trying to buy that back from you! Gad you still have it. I did pick one up a little earlier date with the same features and a sweet near new (no cylinder line) 1957 .44 Flattop with era correct stag grips. :)

I suspected as much. As I said if given a choice I would not expect single store outlets to be motivated to collect another provinces tax. I think avoiding tax, legally of course, ought to be a national pastime. Here in BC, the more we pay the more they spend, I work on the premise if we send less they might just spend less.

Yes.

Did that make you feel better? lol.

The OP seems ok with it so who am I to further this discussion. I'm done.

Well that is very nice for you, however it doesn't much help the CGN community reading this thread when that is the only information you provide. You took the time to post but it would be helpful if you could take a couple seconds more to fill in the blanks. My intent it not to argue with you or to "be right".

Under the RST Act here in Ontario, back in the day when you purchased something out of province without paying PST you were supposed to self assess the PST and remit it to the prov govt.

Not sure but I assume the same thing applies today when you purchase something from Alberta and only pay 5%.

I just purchased something from good 'ol Alberta...... ;)
