Taxidermy Opinion (Got my Buck back!)

I didn't realize that this was on the "cheap" side I'm guessing I should've done more research. All his other work actually looks to be well done that's why I'm confused. Either way he said to bring it back and He'll see what can be done, but I replied asking why this happened in the first place, I can't make it out there for another 4 weeks anyways.

Well he offered to either try and rework it or get a new cape and redo it. What do you recommend. It really upsets me that I can't use the same cape of my first buck. If I get a new cape will it change the look (as you can see from my original post this deer was BIG especially in the neck area.

Thanks

I'd take it to a different taxidermist and see what they would charge to fix it.
Then see if this guy would cough up said funds.

Them molds are soft aren't they?
Meaning he could of shaved some of the fabric off the mold to reduce the overall
size to help the hide fit.
The reason I mention this is the one taxidermist I used on Bullwinkle asked for photos
of this moose.
This I had and the reasoning is to form the moose mold to exact match one to the other.
Sound absurd?
This is what pro's do.

My first buck mount was done 25 years ago and it cost me $600.00 then, it was a real quality job and still looks good today. Always ask to see some of their work before giving them your trophy, you only ever get your first buck once!

No go on the refund he wants to remount it with a new cape and show me some of his quality work. Guess we will see how it goes

I am not an expert by any means but I do have a couple mounts that are older, have some wear and tear, but still have none of the issues the OP shows new.

I was told by a taxidermist that did mine the first question to ask is " Do you dry tan or oil tan" Quick turn around is dry tanned most likely and your mount will only get worse. I have seen the difference in mounts done by a local guy that has won awards that dry tans. They look incredible when first done but a few years down the road the shrinkage is horrible and if they are in a humid basement I have seen them sag. He can turn one around in two weeks. Avoid the dry tan. I am not sure of the difference in the two processes but there is over time.

My guy took 12 months and my mounts look just as good as when I picked the one up in 1994. He even took it home with him a few years back for a a couple touch ups that were not even noticeable to me. a slight crack 1/8" in the nose and an eye was "dusty"

This past fall I had my grandfathers deer head
redone . It was originally mounted in 1923 ,the year
he was married . It was the nicest one out of 37
that year . ROMAN NOSED .
I have it proudly hung in the living room .

I'm sorry for my harshness but taxidermy is all
About details. He did a #### job and I would be quite mad.
Our experienced taxidermist did high quality work for under $400.

He should make it right.!
