TC Encore vs TC Contender....differences?

I have heard the frame is smaller for the contender. Never seen one so I'm just passing on a rumor I guess.

To remove the butt, there is a bolt under the TC plate on the bottom of the pistol grip. Then it slides right off.

yes frame is smaller on the contender. Makes for a nice pistol. but they are Real hard to find new.

a T/c Encore is a much better buy.(if you want a Rifle) if you want a pistol it's BIG! also it has a much better made frame so there is a lot more Cals for it. (like the 500s&w)

(i have a T/C endeavor) Witch is close to a encore.

buttstock comes off with one screw in the pistol grip on the encore

Contender frame is a bit smaller.

I don't think you can legally convert the rifle (Encore or Contender) into a pistol. Can you???

I now have 3 of the stainless steel Gen 1 Contender carbines & 11 barrels these are fun little rifles that I have had a great time collecting/shooting.

My barrels are...

1) 16.5" 22LR s/s tapered
2) 21" 22LR s/s tapered
3) 23" 204 Ruger blued bull
4) 21" 223 s/s tapered
5) 21" was 30-30 s/s tapered now rechambered to 308Bellm = 444 Marlin brass necked down with 308 Win dies loaded to 300 Savage velocities 150gr @ 2600fps.
6) 21" was 375 Win s/s tapered now rechambered to 375JDJ = 260gr Accubonds @ 2300fps
7) 18" 10mm blued (this maybe the longest 10mm barrel ever made by T/C Custom Shop
8) 14" 45 Colt s/s bull
9) 22" 45-70 s/s bull
10) 24" 50 cal Mag Gonic Arms muzzle loader s/s
11) 21" 410 vent rib s/s

There are now really only 2 Contender frame designs the original frame sometimes called Gen 1 and the newer stronger G2 that has the rib on the side of the frame like the Encore/Prohunters do there was a rare Contender called Armor Alloy I do not even think there is one of these in Canada though.

The Gen 1 & G2 frames will accept the same barrels but they use different grips/butt stocks the Armor Alloy uses the same grip/butt stock but barrels will not interchange with Gen 1 & G2 frames.

The original Contender frames do not handle high pressure rounds like 308 Win/270 Win/300 mag etc like the far larger/heavier Encores so you have depending on the round chambered to be very aware of the pressures you load them too it is very important to keep pressures below 40,000 PSI.

It is a real shame that Contenders are are so rare in Canada now and I feel extremely lucky to have what I have.

I've had a few of them over the years. Numerous barrels. Down to one in 7mm TCU now. There was at least one of the Armor Alloy (wasn't the marketing name Armalloy?) ones here, Klondike had it for sale in Edmonton, if my memory is working. They were good guns for silhouette shooting, as well as handgun hunting. - dan

Ellwood Epps used to have some in stock and I understand Clay @ Prophet River (you can find his links in the EE) may import a gun for you.
