Single shot or repeater?

In the single-shot, you could look for a nicely used Steyr LG110
- Simple
- Reliable
- Accurate
- Good shot count
- If need be, easy enough too bump the power up
- Good resale value should you not like airguns

Another vote for a SSP based on your preference for <500 fps . The single-stroke pneumatics are scary accurate out to 30m under the right conditions. I shoot my Walther LGR indoors at 15m and it shoots one-hole groups all day long. Outdoors you'll have to contend with the wind but on a calm day, dime sized groups at 25m is quite easy to accomplish. No tanks, handpumps or high pressure compressors to deal with although I do occasionally get a hankering to pull out my old Career 707.
 
If you are willing to wait the Air Venturi Avenger will be coming in January. Externally adjustable regulator and hammer spring, moderate price and well reviewed.

From the videos I've seen it's a very good rifle. Shoots some slugs well also.

For the price of a entry level PCP kit, you could get a top-tier springer
- TX 200
- HW 95
And you would still have some physical effort to get the joy of shooting

I bought a MKII just before the MK3 came out. I was not happy at the time, but am now glad I have the MKII. It's been a real money pit though. K&L parts, a slug barrel and shroud/tuner. I went .25cal and ended up buying a swaging die to make my own slugs. Still tuning, but it looks very promising. I might buy a .177cal in something for back yard plinking. The Impact at 60-65 ft-lbs is not a backyard plinking gun.

I'm just getting back into PCPs and I'm going to wait for one. Being able to easily dial it down for backyard work is a huge appeal.
I almost bought a Artemis M11 but the stock shape wasn't quite right and adjusting the power is non-trivial.
