Teach me the way of the AR

• 6-position adjustable stock: Magpul CTR
• Charging Handle: BCM/Gunfighter Mod 4

These for sure... they were the first 2 things I swapped out

Another thing you may want to consider is the Magpul Enhanced Trigger guard (or any other variant).

• Lower Receiver : Spikes Tactical Lower

I find that off grey colour of the NEA only works if you have the matching upper and handguards (unless you have a coloured handguard). So you'll find it stands out more with the black Stag upper. It's an esthetics thing for sure, but they're only a little more than the NEA

For your gas block and front sight, it depends if you want to go with the standard A2 FSP. If you do end up with that, then try to get the barrel with the FSP pre-installed, as the taper pins will be matched for the barrel and FSP.

For the BCG, get a quality one, Daniel Defence are hard to get as they keep going out of stock...

For the handguards, there are a lot of options... the NEA ones aren't bad, I just don't like the colour and the way the mount looks, but it seems like a decent set. But I'd go Daniel Defence or Troy.

Personally, Wolverine Supplies, Questar and Brownell's will be your best friend. That's where I got all the parts for 2 ARs.

For magazines you're going to want some LAR-15's, and I'd replace the followers with the anti-tilt Magpul ones and Magpul ranger base plates.

This as well, except I just got the Magpul-L plates for my LARs... same difference though

I'll chime in on some of my thoughts/findings during my current build

Lower -Hard to go wrong with a Spikes' Lower. RRA is also in that price range, so maybe worth a look as well. I ended up getting a Noveske GII FFL for my basis, but wouldn't hesitate at either of the above mentioned ones.

LPK - I couldn't get a DD LPK, so I went with a RRA myself. There was some questionable comments about the DPMS ones on other boards & the Spikes' Enhanced LPK was a little too rich for me. I added in KNS Anti-Rotation Pins on my Lower for peace of mind

BCG - I missed the DD ones at OSTS, so I pre-ordered a Spikes' Nic-Boron unit from Questar

Charge Handle - BCM/Vltor Mod 3

Handguard/Rail - DD Omega/X are highly regarded. Best bang for the $$ from what I've seen are the YHM (Yankee Hill Mach) Diamond Series. Free-floating & you can add in their end plate for a nice clean look. They're about half the cost of the DDs'. Length is going to depend on what barrel length you go with & the look your trying to achieve. If you go with an A2 FSB, your probably looking at a 7- 9" depending if you end up with a Carbine or Mid-Length Gas length system.

Looks like your on your way to a nice build. Keep us posted as parts amass & the build begins.

I already have bought a NEA lower, so I'll stick with that for my first build.

I was thinking of bead blasting and stripping the color of all the parts anyways. Smooth them all out and get them refinished in a similar color as my project truck.

This is also the reason I am looking for unfinished or blemished parts.

I found a nice yankee hill machine forearm "Solid Free Float" Medium Length, on inventory close out. Any vendors cary that one?

My vote is for a 14.5" mid length gas system.

Good luck.

I was reading a .223/5.56 would get maximum use out of a 16", is this true or false?
But a mid length gas system is what I was reading about too.

Once you are ready to assemble your ar, go to brownells and watch their videos how to. they are excellent.

I will check those out forsure.

Thank you for the advice guys, and thank you blaxsun for the Spike's ST-T2.

I hear with a mid-length on a 14.5, the bullets tend to fly flatter and are more accurate at longer ranges...

If I could do it over again, I'd have gotten this... not that I couldn't build or swap out my current barrel/gas system
