so i was talking to my brother in law telling him about my bear up i was on about a month ago and he called me a techie hunter cuz i would gps every thing that was useful for the hunt bear sightings to finding sign on the ground well in my defence we covered over 800 square km and figured that the bears where in a 80 square km area next year trail cams

does anyone else hunt like this

People laugh at that stuff, and the same with that sort of thing while fishing, but it produces results like nobody's business. Attention to detail makes a huge difference. If most of your bears are within that 80 km you mentioned, then travelling the whole 800 every bear season is a waste of time. The thing is, lots of hunters would just keep doing the same thing over and over, and every year they'd get a bear and think they were doing great, never noticing they kept getting thier bear in the same small section of their large hunt...

I agree that it is the attention to detail that matters here. If part of your strategy is with your GPS and such, fine! Probably a guy with a compass and photocopied topo maps could manage the same thing. Anybody serious about their scouting needs some way of recording.

The evolution of opposing thumbs brought innovation.

I use two trail cams, GPS, Laser Range finder, and a 1:50,000 Arc/GIS created topo map

The people that criticize about using tech, are the same ones that 100 years ago criticized about using optics. "Real hunters only use Iron Sights, scopes are cheating", or before that the Natives "Real hunters use bows and spears, guns are cheating"
or the cavemen, "me real hunter, me use hands, not rock or stick"
