howdy fellas.

im doin the TTSX thing soon and was wondering, Say I was to sight in with Barnes Vor tx 130gr at 2 inch high @ 100m.......
and then I was to load the RIGHT (read slower) powder from ADI , using the Same TTSX 130gr , would it be "easy enough" to find the charge that will Also have the Same POI 2 inch high @ 100m ? or is the Different powder enough to change POI Horizontally??

I have a few months until this happens, but if I remember correctly, if I can match the FPS from the Barnes factory loads, should be all Bells an Whistles??

I also guess Worse case its not going to be much of an adjustment ay.. but if a mild charge yield same results, brass life expectancy would be appreciated.

There is no rhyme or reason to POIs varying with loads. It might be the same,probably be close or could be a mile off. Only shooting will tell. Barrel whip is the big wild card.

This!! I have had two different powders, very close in burn rate, and showing practically identical velocities, shoot 5" apart on the 100M target.

Additionally, one shot sub-moa, the other about 1½moa. Go Figure!

As said, it is always a crap shoot when changing powders because nodes are created by the pressure curve of the burning propellant. That said, I have found that in a lot of cases you can come very close to the same POI by playing with seating depth and powder charges. There is no guarantee, but it can be done in a lot of cases. My double 470 NE Merkel shoots to exactly the same POI as the factory ammo when I reached the exact velocity it was supposed to be regulated with, 2150- 2160 fps. I used a load of IMR 4831, which I doubt the factory used, but none the less achieved the desired result.
The only way to know is to try it, but you have a decent chance using the same bullet at roughly the same velocity.................
 
Unravel and extension cord and whip it around to untangle it, where the end winds up is about as predictable and very representative to switching powders like others have said.

That damn barrel is like a cooked spaghetti noodle.
 
It would probably be a similar POI.

BUT, if you are going to handload, I would load 3 or 5 of each load, in 0.3 or 0.5 gr increments and try mid-power to Max in the book, and see what groups the best. There is often a huge difference.

Be prepared to not shoot the hotter loads, if you run into pressure signs.

^^^ I've used the same components, only varying the powder, at roughly the same velocity, and had a change of several inches horizontally at 200 yds.

more I thought about it, the more I suspected it would be a wild stab in the dark hoping to match fps an a poi, with as you guys say, A different primer, different powder .. the good thing will be I have a bunch of barnes brass.

Just so you know, Remington makes Barnes brass. Same weight, same headstamp and same owners.
