I think I want a 10mm as my first handgun.
for the amount I shoot, the cost of ammunition is inconsequential, and I just think it is a cool calibre.

looking for sub $1k.

I guess the obvious choice would be a Glock, but I am an iffy shot at best, and I find the Glock trigger just exacerbates my lack of skill.
However, I am willing to learn how to shoot the Glock if that is the best price/value proposition.
I love the 1911 platform, but I dont know if there are reasonably priced, quality options in 10mm

for any recommendation, please let me know where I can purchase.

Thanks

you ever shoot 1911 before? (i see now you say you love the 1911 platform)

What do you mean you're an iffy shot? iffy with Glocks or?

Overall pretty crappy, but I just shoot for fun. Just prefer the crispness of a single action trigger pull as opposed to the Glock 'safe action' or whatever they call it now.

If you want to improve, buy a .22 first and spend the rest on ammo. If you don't care, then buy a 10mm and enjoy. I bought a S&W 1006 for my 10mm, but they are not the most common gun around.

SAM omega 6 in .40 s&w is $575 from wolverine supplies. Get a 10mm barrel and a couple mags and you are good to go.

that sounds kind of perfect. it doesnt' 'over function' and beat the crap out of itself? change recoil spring also? where to find the 10mm bits?

10mm is for those than know 40s&w is for whimps...lol. i have 2 10's they are a lot of fun. lookin for a s&w 1006

S&W = Short and Weak.

I love my Glock 10mm. Wouldn't trade it for nothin. Get a Wolf 10-.40 barrel and you the best of every world.

If you reload, you only need 1 Die set as well. And you will want to reload, as factory 10mm is also weak.... Get yourself some 180s at 1300. Woot Woot!!

I have had a 1006 and a Colt Delta, I liked them both but sold them and went with a 1066 and a Glock 21SF with a complete Glock 20 upper and 40 S&W drop in barrel for the G20 upper. It makes a nice triple caliber package. I love the 1066 but over time I tend to use the Glock the most. I was not a Glock guy and was reluctant at first but I have really come to like it. There are tons of accessories, parts, mags, sights, holsters etc for it. Like any pistol platform a little patience and practice will bring good results. The option of a. 40 barrel makes practice ammo an easy option if you don't reload. 10 mm is a great caliber with some interesting platforms.
Good Luck

Not to crap on anybody's parade, but the forces that full house loads put on a frame destroy most metal framed 1911's. the polymer frames allow for more flex with each round, instead of warping the whole cookie. I think glocks are pigs with triggers and that's why I bought a ghost trigger kit and cleaned up my g20. Also I slimmed the grip down, because on a standard glock 20 if you don't have piano player fingers it's gonna be a stretch.
