Tell me about 9.3x74R

There's no dust on the 9.3X74, I have 3 in SXS, a Farky, an Alex Henry, and a Ruger. It'll handle any NA 29 Game more than adequately. Just loaded up a couple hundred more rounds for the future.

Arctic, what SXS do you have? I have been considering one for a while.

The Sabatti looks interesting, and not too hard to look at the price either.

I have one in a o/u sabatti that handles good. Feds ex has a coupe o/u by Vern with 20" brls that would be great for quick handle. I get 2300 - 2400 with 286.

Saw one of their side X side a few days ago, Phil, right here in Whitehorse. It was a 30-06.

They make it in 9.3X62 too. Perhaps you can find out about getting one of them.

Why Not?,
The doubles are a BRNO Safari, a Kreighoff, and a pair of Merkels (the other is a .470).
The Farky I got from Fred Wells as an action, gave to Bob Snapp to go over and rebuild with a half octogon and rib, Then Al Lind turned a Turkish walnut blank I had, and finished it off myself. Shoots great and I haven't seen another Farky in 9.3.
The Alex Henry was rebarreled, ....just to be different, because the original barrel had been sleeved to .410 when Britain banned .45's in the colonies!
Someday I'll master photos for this site.

side by side by Baikal were made in 30-06, 45/70 and some in 7.62x54r ...

over under in many options i have one in 30-06 and the european market have the 9.3x74r never heard of the 9.3x62 but if a 74r why bother with a x62 in a breakable action ... extraction can be a big issue.

BTW, Calgary Shooting Centre has an entry level Chapuis for $5100... looks very nice overall, beautiful Turkish walnut...

There are a number of Chapuis' listed on Guns International... Cabela's is the major (maybe only?) USA importer/distributor... they have a number in their various show rooms listed between $2100-$2500 US... the new retail is $2999 US... import fees via Prophet River et al are $250 plus tax and shipping... sounds like it would be well worth importing one.

Good point:

$2400 (assuming sale price)
x 1.27 (current exchange rate)
=3048
x 1.13 (taxes)
=3444
+ 283 (approx. import fee + taxes)
=3726
+100 (approx. shipping)
=$3826

Probably other hidden bs fees and taxes, so let us say $4000...

Definitely worth the hassle of importing!

Fixed it for ya, based on my half dozen imports...

at that price yes worth it, but not all Chapuis are made egal and some have a really bad regulations. mounting a scope on it wont help either unless done at the factory ..

I have looked at some Chapuis reviews, and most are mediocre, some excellent, some poor. I would love to hear some real world feeback from CGNers who own them.

few years ago we had two guys in our hunting club (n France) that had one 9.3x74r and the other one a special custom fancy 300 win mag. one was a shooter, the other the fancy custom never been able to shoot ... the optic quick release mount was adapted by a gunsmith but the vibration on barrels make it un shootable before master gunsmith of chapuis arms dig in and it took a while before the gun was back in business ... hope this real world experience will help you.
